This might be a premature question to ask, but does anyone know if it is possible to back up/archive the massive data files downloaded during the installation so that any subsequent re-installs can forego the heavy lift?

(I don't have any intention of deliberately testing it right now, but I guess it can't hurt to try copying it out to a different drive to try out if ever a re-install becomes necessary)

Sure, I don't see why not. It checks them and updates them accordingly during launch, so that should definitely be possible.
