August 19, 20205 yr Hi, the Reality XP 430 sim is wonderful - it meant that I could clear my desk of sim hardware but I'm having a bit of a problem with FLT which I bought last week to change the DI in the standard C172 to a HSI. The installation appeared to be OK and the altered panel file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel shows that the edit using notepad had the HSI but when I run FSX SE the panel is not altered. It's almost as if FSX SE is accessing a different panel.cfg file. The FSX SE is pretty much standard and I have FSUIPC and Spad installed. I did alter the permissions as suggested at http://reality-xp.com/support/knowledgebase/flnt-fsx.html 20/02/23 20:13:14.605 02424 - ] # rxpGNS2.DLL version 2.4.15.3 20/02/23 20:13:14.605 02424 INFO ] 19/12/10 17:11:26.583 04872 - ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.4.15.3 19/12/10 17:11:26.623 04872 INFO ] edit panel: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel\panel.cfg 19/12/10 17:15:28.616 00328 INFO ] 19/12/10 17:15:28.636 00328 INFO ] edit panel: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel\panel.cfg 20/02/23 20:13:15.464 02424 - ] # rxpGnsSim32.dll version 2.4.15.0 20/02/23 20:13:15.463 02424 INFO ] The hardware spec is not particularly spectacular in that I'm using a 32 bit Win 7 system that is a bit long in the tooth (a bit like me...) August 19, 20205 yr Hi, you're using an old GNS V2 version and you might want to first update to the latest and review the release notes: Especially the latest FSX-SE update is supported only starting with GNS V2 v2.4.17.0
August 19, 20205 yr Author Thanks for your very quick response. I'll let you know if the updated version cures the problem. Waldo
August 19, 20205 yr Author Hi Jean-Luc, I downloaded the latest version, v2.4.20.2 and ran rxpGNS2-FSIM-Setup.exe that was created on 23/06/2020. Then I checked that I had the latest version using Software Updates (open Configuration Panel | Check Updates) but I'm still not seeing the updated instruments in the C172. What have I missed? Waldo
August 20, 20205 yr Author Hi Jean-Luc, the log files appear to show that I'm not running the latest v2.4.20.2 but the version that I loaded originally. 20/02/23 20:13:14.605 02424 - ] # rxpGNS2.DLL version 2.4.15.3 20/02/23 20:13:14.605 02424 INFO ] 19/12/10 17:11:26.583 04872 - ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.4.15.3 19/12/10 17:11:26.623 04872 INFO ] edit panel: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel\panel.cfg 19/12/10 17:15:28.616 00328 INFO ] 19/12/10 17:15:28.636 00328 INFO ] edit panel: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel\panel.cfg 20/02/23 20:13:15.464 02424 - ] # rxpGnsSim32.dll version 2.4.15.0 20/02/23 20:13:15.463 02424 INFO ] I did set up the RSS feed and double clicked on the entry for v2.4.20.2 and I got a new tab that had a page of html with "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." across the top. In the body of the html was a link: http://files.100megabyte.com/realityxp/rxpGNS2-FS.zip which I opened and downloaded the file, rxpGNS2-FS.zip which I ran. There doesn't seem to be a mechanism for handling the RSS feed. I look forward to your reply Waldo

August 20, 20205 yr Author I unzipped the file (in My Documents\Reality XP) and ran the .exe which seemed to run ok. The only gauge set that I selected was FSX SE. The log files stay the same.
August 20, 20205 yr Can you please reboot the computer in case these files were 'locked' after you've exited FSX-SE, this will unlock them. Then prior running FSX-SE, run the installer again and only then you can launch FSX-SE.
August 20, 20205 yr Author Rebooted, ran the installer again. Just after I selected gauges for FSX SE I saw a message that told me that I had the latest version. Installer ended OK. Log files still showing old version and not the one just installed.

You can cross check the file time and/or the logged time (UTC) within to see whether this is relevant. Having said this I didn't notice your logged timestamps: 6 hours ago, Spamcanflyer said: 20/02/23 20:13:14.605 02424 - ] # rxpGNS2.DLL version 2.4.15.3 23FEB2020 here. Can you please confirm these files are in the "My Documents" folder? Can you manually delete them if this is the case and see whether they get recreated the next time to load an aircraft with a GNS?
August 20, 20205 yr Author Desktop\Libraries\Documents\My Documents\Reality XP\ If the install is running OK and I'm being notified as such and the installer completes its installation and checks that the files have been created then where is the installer putting the files?
August 20, 20205 yr Author Deleted the log files, reran the install and loaded up FSX SE. The log files are not in My Documents\Reality XP. I'll try a reboot and, if that is unsuccessful, I will start afresh by uninstalling FSX SE and re-installing it and deleting all the Reality XP installs and doing them again. Reality XP worked the first time so it might work with the updated installer.
August 20, 20205 yr Author Rebooted and reran the installer and got the same result. I did a fule search and found the log files somewhere else - under Desktop\Libraries\Documents 20/08/20 20:14:19.479 05404 - ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.4.20.0 20/08/20 20:14:19.532 05404 INFO ] edit panel: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\panel\panel.cfg 20/08/20 20:14:22.627 04900 - ] # rxpGNS2.DLL version 2.4.20.2 20/08/20 20:14:22.627 04900 INFO ] 20/08/20 20:14:23.496 04900 - ] # rxpGnsSim32.dll version 2.4.20.0 20/08/20 20:14:23.494 04900 INFO ] 20/08/20 20:15:21.839 05788 INFO ] G430.1 - TRAINER 3300 20/08/20 20:15:59.505 05788 INFO ] FPL not found in: C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GNS Trainer Data\GNS\ Have copied them to the correct location and ran FSX SE which was the same as before. It seems a bit odd that the files were not placed where you or I expected but having relocated them it looks as if I'm heading in the right direction. Correct the last statement: the log files that were updated were not located in My Documents/Reality XP but in Documents. I wonder why... Edited August 20, 20205 yr by Spamcanflyer

(I didn't say "Documents\RealityXP" !) So what do the log files are saying: you have edited the C172 panel.cfg you're loading an aircraft with the GNS it finds and load the trainer alright. Isn't it displaying anything at this stage? What about reviewing the "View" menu (IIRC) and see whether the popup Windows containing the GNS is properly listed and can be made visible? August 21, 20205 yr Author As I said, the files are in Desktop\Libraries\Documents and not in My Documents.
