Airport beacon visibility issues?

Featured Replies

Anyone else have trouble seeing airport beacons? At times I've noticed the approach lighting of an airport before seeing the beacon flash, but it seems to be intermittent and I'm wondering what other people have experienced. This may have come up in one of the long general issues threads but I didn't read them all and overall haven't really seen anyone mention it specifically yet.

Yes, this drives me nuts. The beacon only becomes visible once you get within a certain distance to the airport (way to close to be usable). If you depart an airport, the beacon stays visible at a much greater distance.

Most of the airports I fly to with FSeconomy aren't even on the map, I have to google map guess their position by superimposing google maps at around same magnification on the game featureless map, let alone having lights.🤣

I believe they have been changing them trying to find a happy medium.  In the early releases you could see them 30 miles away or more.  In the real world, at most airports across the world, they are usually only on only from sunset to sunrise or when the airport is below VFR conditions.  They may decided to go with the way the FAA regulates beacon lights to mimic real world fliying.
