Can't download MSFS

Featured Replies

Whenever I try and download MSFS it gets stuck on the very first file (for the 787). It downloads the first few percent and then starts again interminably.

There is no error code condition or and nothing I can think of has any effect.

.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you manage to solve this somehow? I experience exaclty the samy issue with 1.9.3.0 update.

I already give the answer on what to do when you have this issue.

Use netlimiter or other program and cap the downloadspeed under 3mb/sec

My download speed is already below 5Mbps (crappy  phone line at the city outskirts). But I will buy NetLimter and limit it even further (then the night to wait for the completion of 8 GB download).

Any idea why this happens to some users? Is my account on server side somehow crippled? Or is this something to be fixed locally.

I created a ticket at Zendesk, but it's not my first bug reported and I never received any answer so far.

Like I said earlier. This is an issue with your local AWS CDN implementation. It's entirely on Asobo to fix. I know it sucks to limit the download but it's the only thing that works until Asobo fix it

By "local" you mean something related to my account? Or the servers closest to my location (Poland). Should VPN with the other end terminated in, let's say, Netherlands help with connecting to the bunch of servers located in the other data centre?

Is this issue affecting update downloads only or in-flight scenery/weather streaming as well. I never experienced such issue during original install or previous patch download.

Yes, I am referring to your region. the last time I tried with a VPN, it didn't work. I think the AWS server is hardcoded based on your MS Account. So even if you connect on a VPN and get a different IP address, the client still think  you are in Poland because your MS account says so.

I wonder why my colleagues in Poland are not experiencing this issue, I just checked with them.

By AWS you mean Amazon Web Services? Is Microsoft using Amazon service instead of their own Azure?

$20 spent on NetLimiter 4 Lite Home License (I was already over the trial period), download speed limited from my usual 5 Mbps to 3 Mbps and progressing sloooooooooooow. Going down from 5 to 3 is not such a big deal, I wonder how would I feel limiting from broadband 300 Mbps 100x down to 3 Mbps just to go aroung crappy Asobo/MS download system.

fogboundturtle - thank you for the advice!

I discovered dozens of people on official MFS2020 forums with similar issue (either during initial dowlnoad, previous patch or current patch) from whom even the NetLimiter trick is not working. They are even making angry videos on YouTube:

To go around the forced update they start the sim with their Ethernet cables disconnected, to go past update screen, then reconnect to be able to fly with streamed scenery.

Hard to imagine that in XXI century, one of the biggest IT companies in the world, is unable to implement reliable file downloader.

Keep your figers crossed for my PC dowloading the update the entire night!

I hint to those with update downloading issues (endless restarts downloading update packages). I was never having such issue before until last patch. I just realized that a couple of days ago I enabled in sim the bandwidth limit to 5 Mbps. Possibly this was causing the dowlnoad issue. I will check it with the next patch.

I remember this bugs since the alpha. You don't want to set the bandwidth in game because it counts the update as part of it.

Thank you a lot Man, you are a genius! This totally solved the issue and mine it's now downloading all this problematic "bigfiles" at full speed without any issue. This also explains why people can reinstall the game at full speed. I can see in task manager that the download is now continuous where it was sort of 'start/stop' before.
I was stuck since first patch and tried all sort of wodoo without success. This is THE solution. Man, make it know in forums because people are getting crazy with this and its definitively a Microsoft/Asobo problem which they have to patch (I think very easily).
Thank again Steku.
