No joy for me...

Featured Replies

So, I was in the Alpha/Beta testing groups for MSFS2020 and didn't have any issues.  I purchased the GamePass and when the game was released I downloaded, installed and used the sim ~25 hours.  Patch 1 came along, I installed it and continued to use the sim adjusting and trying some mods, etc.

Then, patch 2 comes along, I go to download it and I noticed I'm only getting an average of 2.5-5Mbps, but I let it run because my internet is only 20Mbps.  Then, it downloads approx 6.5GB after several days and all of a sudden, starts over (fs-base-cgl-xxx)  and continues this cycle for several more days - all the while my cpu and gpu is between 90-100%.  I tried everythign including the netsh fix, checked with my ISP, checked the Xbox, MSFS forums looking for this issue and a fix.  Ultimately, I uninstalled everything completely and started from scratch.  I go to download and still, it is only 2.5-5Mbps - I let it run and after a few hours, nothing is downloading, I monitor the network via task manager to see what the download speed is - it is flat lined with zero bytes coming through.  I tried several more times and the same thing happens.

Then, I completely uninstalled everything again.  I go to Steam and purchase the sim there and start there.  The installer downloads very quick, then I go to run the sim after install and it says I need 102GiB, so I begin the cycle of downloading again.  The same thing, I get only 2.5-5Mbps download speed.  You do the math between Mbps and GiB, No joy.  So after a few hours I stop the download and request a refund.

This morning, I take my laptop to my workplace which has gigabit fiber, I connect my laptop, go back to GamePass account and install the sim to my laptop.  The installer comes in blazing fast, then I start the sim and it says you need 102GiB, so I start the download - BAM, the same thing - 2.5-5Mbps is all it will do.

I have succumbed to the fact that I will not be able to move forward with this sim.  I'm not sure what happened between patch 1 and 2, but for now, it looks like I'm SOL.So for everyone else, enjoy the new sim.  I am going back to X-Plane 11 for now.  Maybe they will get this sorted soon, but I have wasted the better part of a week trying to get this bugger downloaded.  I'll still monitor this forum to see if something may change.  There are others with this same issue, but I don't know the overall numbers.  My thinking is, either something with my GamePass profile or a distributed download server is screwed up, but trying to convince MS of this is a hefty undertaking.  Nevertheless, it sux 2 b me at this point...hahaha  Have a great day everyone.

Sorry to hear that. Nothing worse than wasting one's free time on broken software. When you say "completely uninstalled", did you also attempt to manually delete any miscellaneous config and data files that uninstaller scripts tend to leave behind in the usual locations? (AppData, ProgramData, registry, etc.) Just a thought. I don't actually know what the MSFS uninstaller leaves behind but it must be leaving behind something corrupt or mis-configured on your system since you're seeing the same issues after a reinstall.

Very unfortunate.... have you left a ticket on Zendesk, they might get back to you (maybe)?

I did try to manually remove everything I could.  Some of their files are really deeply embedded in the file structure, I cannot be sure I got them all removed.

I have not left a ticket on Zendesk, but I have spoken with Xbox support since I am using Gamepass.  The guy gave me a laundry list of things to check and set, which I did last night, then started the install over.  It downloaded 11GB during the night and I wake up to find zero bytes being downloaded, so I pause and quit the installation and restart the sim and it picks up, then after about 500MB, it flat lines again with zero bytes being downloaded.  I'm at work now, but the next thing when I return home is to manually delete the current file it's trying to download and retry.  This process is super painful and a yuge waste of time and energy.  This is one of the worst rollouts of a piece of software I've ever seen, but I guess if there's no pain, there's no gain...hahaha
