Aircraft that support and can fly RNAV approach?

Featured Replies

Just curious are there any aircraft that support RNAV approaches and can fly them (like an ILS in other words without the ILS radio)?  I'm mostly curious on the TBM.  I assume the airliners could if they worked at all, but curious what other aircraft if any in the sim can.  I'm guessing they can fly the lateral part but not sure about the "virtual" glideslope.  RNAV is fairly new since last time I simmed seriously and I see a lot of RNAV approaches in navigraph and the sim when planning.  Would like to use them without hand flying 🙂

I have flown an RNAV LPV with the CJ4. It won't show the GS in the PFD but the autopilot will fly it if it exists. Honestly I think many or most of the planes will, but many approaches that should have vertical guidance don't in the sim because of nav data deficiencies. In addition the virtual glideslope, when available, does not extend as far as it would in real life, making it harder to intercept.

If you're concerned with Asobo improving and updating the nav data, you can let them know by upvoting this thread on the official forums: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/when-will-the-navblue-partnership-be-effective-and-we-will-get-current-navdata-what-about-the-charts-services/

thanks, yeah I was worried the navdata wouldn't support it.  Maybe the navigraph stuff updating the sim will help at some point as well.  Guess I'll save RNAV for anything I do a lot and test if it works then use it on those flights.  traveling my way through Germany and up to the Sweden/Finland/etc. areas right now though and not sure what the data coverage is like there.  Like I said the sim shows for example RNAV 15 for EDDH but I don't know if it has the glideslope data so I went with the ILS 15 instead.

I've successfully flown some RNAV approaches in the A320. I think @cwburnett is right, missing navdata is the main issue. For example, the RNAV E approach to Innsbruck works but the RNAV Z doesn't.
