I tried this and putting a fair amount of back pressure on the controls did allow if to hold steady while cruising, but descending holding that pressure meant it couldn't go down. So I had to ease up.
October 1, 20205 yr Yeah flying just now and it really seems to depend on a lot of factors, altitude, turbulence, wind direction, AOA, so its a constant mini-game getting it to settle with the stick, and definitely an incorrect behavior that they need to resolve. Basically if I get the PFD 3d vision watermark in yellow to sit nicely below the purple FD, then I can release the stick, and it will "relax" even up to FL450, that is until a gust or turbulence bumps it into a wobble again. WEEEEEE!
