A GA Pilot flies the A32NX Mod

Featured Replies

It's an A320 NEO but to all intents and purposes Airmen should handle it It like an Ultralight. 90 tons of heavy metal doesn't flit around as you take off in to a cross-wind like that. Mass-resultant inertia needs a serious look at by Asobo. But that's the way to fly it. . .for now. And if you treat it that way - it flies good.

Once you get it in the air it's all yours - the FBW Logic is up and down. Good fun. Mostly stable. Mostly like the real thing. Just fly the thing. And it flies rather nicely.Remember; Don't Trim unless you've switched OFF the ELACs on the O/H - which is not recommended - and indeed, not needed to fly well.

Don't hurl it at the AP; you'll fail, rather, stabalise your flight conditions and introduce it gradually (as in RW) to the AP. Your Pax will thank you for it.

Wouldn't fly my mum and dad in the pax section however.

I'm sure it'll be improved massively over the next couple of years/ probably months.

Those pilots wishing to elaborate their Airbus Mentality and understand "Differences From Boeing" should watch this film;

Type-Rating on any frame starts with Pattern-Bashing.

Good Luck. I think the Mod is really good - but we have serious control issues and serious fundamental weights + balances aerodynamic errors. That having been said it is a massive improvement over the Default and the poor aerodynamics are hard coded so the mod isn't able to do anything about that until the SDK is improved.

Oh, well, if you have to get back to Heathrow in a hurry to catch last orders - it'll get you there.

Below: Swiss Airbus A330 Base Training.

Same Airbus Logic though - which is, of course; their logic. Fly the A319 - and you can fly the A380.

NB; the AP is not put in at any point in any of the T & G's with any of the pilots on their patterns until the Senior crew are on the way home to Zurich.

Hand Fly first! AP is a luxury.

What do you mean by "the FBW logic is up and down?"

I'm sure not flying it like an ultralight and not having it "flit around," but maybe I haven't seen big wind gusts like you have? I will agree there is a mass/inertia issue in that you can accelerate and decelerate much too quickly in flight. This is one airplane you can come in hot and high and have no problems landing - no need for stable approach criteria!

I guess as a GA pilot, you just couldn't resist the trim wheel!  Just don't even think about it!

I realize that there have been plenty of autopilot issues reported (and not just on this airplane and nothing to do with the mod), but I haven't experienced them. No need to introduce it gradually, and it can be engaged 5 seconds after liftoff (no lower than 100 feet AGL) in real life.

What are the serious control issues and fundamental aerodynamics errors? Most of the aerodynamic coefficients are in the flight model.cfg file and can be readily changed. The hard part is pinpointing exactly what a particular problem is caused by (for example, is it a thrust or drag issue) and then finding the right variable to change it in just the right way.
