Looking for VR tips as I get ready to convert

Featured Replies

Hey all. Got a Reverb g2 pre-ordered. Should be here in a month or so unless they delay it again. While I wait, I'm constructing a "sim pit" which I had planned to make very elaborate with curved screen projectors, etc until I decided to go VR. Now it's pretty much gonna be a chair with mounts for various controllers. 😉

Looking for tips from people who are already using VR with DCS. I have a HOTAS stick (T1600M), but it doesn't have quite enough buttons to handle everything I need to use in the F18. I've been using a custom button box app on an Android tablet to flesh out the controls, but that of course won't work since I won't be able to see the tablet with the headset on.

How are you guys already on VR interacting with the cockpit? I know the Reverb will come with hand controllers, but I would think using a HOTAS and the hand controllers at the same time would be clunky, and at the same time abandoning the stick to just wave my hands in the air won't feel right for stick and throttle work. Best practices?

Virpil makes a very nice Dual throttle with fantastic button/slider/axis options.

***Edit*** Sorry,I should also add .You can do a lot by feel and touch memory .After you have your Hotas for awhile you get used to button location without the need to physically see them,Some VR headsets  have a loose fit,and you can peek through a small space at the bridge of your nose if needed.

I'd love to get a Virpil, but... Every time I've tried, they're sold out already. I'm just not fast enough. 😉
