October 25, 20205 yr I flew Leg 3 (PASI to PAEN) of my around the world trip last weekend. The flight was going well until I hit an icing layer that iced up the aircraft - and nothing would clear the ice due to cold OATs, not even descending to traffic pattern altitude and flying around for a while. I ended up landing with the windscreen basically totally iced over, using only a small area on the right hand side. For Leg 4 (PAEN to PAJC) today I managed to avoid any icing. However the weather at PAJC when I arrived was very bad, below VFR minimums. Due to an embarrassing pre-flight checklist error, I took off with 50% fuel and only had ~6 gal of useable fuel remaining at PAJC, so diverting to another airport with better weather was not an option. PAJC doesn't have any instrument approaches. So, I cheated a bit and created an approach in LittleNavMap and flew that down to ~200 feet above the field. At that point the large grass strip cutting across the small peninsula was clearly visible and I was able to safely land. (If the G1000 in the game was better modeled, I could have done the same by using the OBS mode the airport waypoint out along the same heading as the runway, and starting my descent about 3 nm out). Thankfully I have been practicing flying this plane 'by the numbers' so I was able to get a nice 3 degree stabilized descent setup with minimal workload so I could focus on looking outside to see the field. October 28, 20205 yr Yes, the windshield icing, I've consistently noticed....hopefully, there will be a fix for that soon... Nonetheless, great report from these legs of the Trip....along with lovely pictures, as always....!! [Time, now, to get some rest in that quiet Cabin...🙂...before the next flight....]
