Software update (connexion issue) (resolved)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have been running Reality XP GNS 530 for quite some time now . I use it with FS9 on a laptop, update it as needed, no problems.

I had success with FSX-SE with Windows 10 except that when I want to update it, I get the message "An error occured in retrieving update information; are you connected to the internet? but the connection is fine.

I did some research and tried different options but no success. Not sure if it was a previous Windows 10 update that created this snag or a firewall issue.

Any advice would be welcome.

Hi,

Can you please detail what you're doing as "when I want to update it"? Do you click something? What? where? How?

Hello Jean-Luc,

When I use FSX-SE or FS9 (Windows 10), have the GNS 530 up an running, if I press and hold the Shift key then Right-click the top edge of the GNS device to open the configuration panel, then click the "Check Updates", I received the message stated above.

I tried to re-install it via F1 e-commerce but I get the message; "There was an error making proper connection to the server; please check your firewall.

Can you access this with your browser:
http://reality-xp.com/appcast/rxpGNS-FS.xml

and this:
http://reality-xp.com/appcast/rxpGNS-FS.html

These are the URL the auto-update is looking for. Now if you get "connection errors" launching the e-commerce installer, whereas it used to work before, there must be something not right in your network setup. Something you might check: is your WIFI or Network properties configured as Private or Public network?

I've scratched my head for a couple weeks where I needed to enter a password every time I needed to access a network equipment only because the network settings I was using on the computer I was using for the connecting was configured as "Public". Changing this to "Private" solved this issue.

Yes, the first one reads  "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below".

The second one is all the updates version listing.

I'll look into the network settings config. Thanks.

Changed network from Public to Private.

Tried to do an update with the Firewall off.

Either case, no success.

You might still have the network device and/or configuration blocked somehow, maybe because of traces of its previous "public" configuration?!

You might want to review some of the information in this discussion in case it is helping:

Otherwise you might want to delete your network device and recreate it anew as a brand new private network connection?

Well, I solved this snag.

I added a new connection; i.e "Broadband connection" with the same user name/password of our internet service provider.

Updates can be done with no problems.

P.S: The GTN 750 that Reality XP offers; does it have the Search and Rescue with the search patterns built-in option?

Thanks

Thank you for the update with this problem and for sharing a solution which might help other users!

As for S&R I believe it is included and working in the GTN indeed. You can even configure your device(s) and add support for MOT (Mark On Target) for which you can bind a controller and/or a shortcut key in order to trigger wpts creation!
