SW USA Texture Mod (Region C)

Featured Replies

Okay - I couldn't leave well enough alone, so this is a continuation of my default terrain texture mods.I have created another "mod" for modifying the existing "desert" textures within the SW USA area (Region C). I frequent the AZ/NV area and comparing with my pics I did some more substitutions. Its pretty hard to have Grand Canyon (dirtier sand/rock), Sedona (redder), Superstition Mountains (more shrub/bush), Vegas etc - all look different when they all share the same textures .... ah - but a good landclass .. anyways So I went with the average, and you end up with a bushier desert texture with definition (simulating the shrubs & cacti etc), getting progressivily thicker up to dry woody scrub. It has more features and personally I thinks its more representative. (on the average based from my trips of the region.) The pic attached is before/after/coverage/real. The before & afters are from around Canyon Lake AZ (and the real), and looking easterly from Vegas. It will cover alot of ground, as I have changed 3 of the 4-5 texture sets that make up a majority of this SW area. Its more of a subtle change this time, but it minimizes the barren-ness of the region. Again it is created to affect all seasons.Hope you like it ..RegardsGaretthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161321.jpgD/L Link:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=93742

Cool man! The way the SW looks really needs some fixing IMO (I'm from Tucson) and seems like this could be the first step...

You first mod was great. Your spoiling us. But keep it up thanks Garett. For another great must have addon.

Thank You very much Garett! That's awesome! I do 90% of my flying in the Southwest US and you have really transformed the region from a bland sand tan to a realistic looking rendition of the high desert.Monument Valley looks fantastic with your new textures! For those that want to check out Monument Valley go to Mexican Hat Utah and head southwest, you'll see it shortly after takeoff.I lost all of the pics I took of it because FSScreen is not working properly with FSX. I'll have to find a new screenshot program to use with the new sim.But I was able to get a shot of Sedona. :-coolThanks again!Skully:-wavewww.MetroWestAirways.comhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161344.jpg

Thanks Guys,That one only took until 3:30 yesterday morning... Thats the problem with my MSFS addiction - its doesn't let me sleep .. ;)I just use the V key for screenies - but I empty the FSX picture folder all the time, otherwise its takes forever and a day to load within FSX.Glad you like it.Regards'Garett

Many thanks for all the effort, Garett. Excellent work :-)One question. I see that there seems to be an update to your "desert" mountains fix added to the library today. Just wondering what changes have been made since the previous file. Edit: Ignore the question. I see that the file is the only one posted. :-)
