Repeated whooshing sound

Featured Replies

I'm new to the forum, so apologies if this bug has been addressed before. I haven't been able to find any reference to it.

My problem is that I get a whooshing/roaring sound which just repeats over and over again for 5-10 minutes or more before it stops. It sounds a bit like a jet taking off or flying past. I think it's triggered when I visit a large airport (eg Gatwick), but it continues even when I'm well away from the airport. I assume it's a sound effect associated with large airports that's persisting for some reason when it's not appropriate. (Actually the way it's repeated would never be appropriate.)

Has anybody else experienced this?

Sorry Ian - based on the replies I'm assuming this is a rare one but does sound like an ambient audio loop. Have you tried reinstalling your sound drivers, and disabling any spatial sound settings in the speaker properties?

I actually found the audio fidelity improved with Win10 specific drivers for my Creative chip (and uninstalled OpenAL and other custom enhancements).

OK thanks Dylan - I hadn't tried those things, but I'll give them a go.

I've heard whooshing sounds if I get into the yellow arc of the airspeed indicator on a few aircraft.  It seems to be an aural indication of approaching the never exceed speed.  Any chance that is what you are hearing, if you are cruising along fast?

(Biggest example is the VL-3 915 mod where the 915 engine turns that little plane into quite the rocket ship and is capable of pushing it well into the yellow arc at 100% power in level flight)

I've been flying slowish aircraft like the C152 etc - so probably not 🙂 The sound is independent of my own airspeed, but does seem to depend on location (eg near major airport).
