November 19, 200619 yr I'm being frazzled by the 2D panel black out problem in FSX. It occurs with 3rd party planes and occasionally default. It is definitely tied to the use of real weather and lower visibilities. Several times after downloading real weather the panels will go black, but if you clear the weather, the panel comes back. I mentioned it on Peter Dowson's forum hoping he might have a fix for it as he fixed the whiteouts of panels in FS2000 and FS2002. Remember those?Someone here suggested adding the rendertotexture=1 stuff in the FSX config, but that didn't do a thing.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
December 31, 200619 yr I just experienced the same problem with a third party aircraft. Switching to static weather "fixed" it (the weather was 60kts at Karachi).Adding the rendertotexture=1 to the ATI 9800 Radeon section in the display.cfg didn't work here either.
December 31, 200619 yr Here is a post I actually copyied (for future reference) from I think this forum somewhere of a potential fix, "Hi AllHere is a solutionI spotted this on a similar topic (ctd in fog)In your fsx.cfg file go to:aircraft_reflections=1and change it to =0I don't know why - but it solved the disappearing panel in fog for meSee if it works for you!"I have done 'fix' and haven't had the problem since. December 31, 200619 yr What luck. I had my first experience with the 2d panel blacking out last night. I could not understand what was happening since I had made no changes to FSX. I was using real weather download and visibility was terrible, down to 300ft and snow.I'll try the mentioned work around.Curious if you guys have reported this to [email protected]? Regards,SD
December 31, 200619 yr Author Since making the above fix, I have not encountered the problem at all.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
December 31, 200619 yr I have a similar problem but i get flashes of white on the terrain when in a cloud or cloud mist. It happens in the VC or 2d. Ill get a flash of white on the terrain only that lasts maybe half a second every 10 seconds or so and only when near or in clouds. *shrug*
December 31, 200619 yr I have not had an opportunity to try the fix yet. What exactly does (aircraft_reflections=1 and change it to =0) this do? If it fixes the 2d panel blackout, does it break something else? Isn't there a check box in the graphics section for aircraft reflections? What would aircraft reflections have to do with the 2d panel turning black?I'm not suggesting that it does not fix the problem. I'd just like to know what else that entry might affect.Happy New Year,SD
