Negative posts about FSX - perhaps a compromise?

Featured Replies

We've been reading since before FSX was releases about several negative aspects of FSX: - Hardware: No multi-processor, SLI support, hungry for RAM, etc. - Bugs: Terrain issues (desert textures), no animals except in missions, some panel issues, several more. - No Add-ons: No planes, no scenery, etc.I know, most of you are saying, why post again just to stir the pot.Well, I'm hoping, just hoping that some will read this and adjust what they post - for the sake of all members on this board.Rather than in some cases blindly posting that there are no add-ons being constructed, that ACES was wrong in their decision for multi-processor support, etc. - perhaps post as a QUESTION! Rather than making statements which in many (but not all) cases are NOT based on any facts, just opinions, then present a concern as your opinion. State it as a opinion, and ask the community and ACES to comment. As we've seen ACES (although not promising) is looking for performance improvements using multi-processor support. There are Add-ons for FSX!Look at the freeware uploads in AVSIM! There are new planes, there is some scenery, there are missions. There are just a handful of commercial products (one plance and the Cloud9 KMCO scenery). But, as it's been posted, we're still waiting for some SDKs to be released. We're all passionate about this hobby. FSX is _not_ perfect. I don't think anyone has said that. Even Geof and Larry have specifically called out flaws in FSX. But, some have found a sweet spot and can and do use FSX in a rich and smooth environment. Good, we should learn from what they can do. And equally justified are those posting about poor framerates, stutters, lack of a rich environment (pushing sliders to the left). We should learn from them! We (and more important - ACES) should understand why FSX behaves good/bad in which hardware situations. But, let's please all stop saying "you're lying if you get those high FPS values", "you're an MS fan", "you just want to boycott MS", "you're only protecting your FS9 purchases".When people post they're loving FSX and specify their settings and hardware - believe them! When people post they hate FSX and specify their settings and hardware - believe them! When people say they prefer FS9 over FSX (or FSX over FS9) for certain flight scenarios - believe them! For those not happy with FSX - ask this community to provide suggestions on how to help. When a tweak suggestion is made, confirm if it helped. I know that Len has experienced some help and has confirmed that WorldAI and a couple tweaks helped him. He's still not happy with FSX, but he's received some help.If a tweak does not help, if you're hardware cannot support FSX, please don't continue to post in different posting threads that FSX stinks, it's "on the shelf", this is worse than FS2000/FS2002, this is the final FS release since it's a failure, etc. We've read, and read, and read these posts. All it does is force the FSX "MS fans" to post they love it and the FSX haters to post FS9 is better.Let those who prefer to use FS9 continue to use it until FSX gets better (hopefully it will). Let those who prefer to use FSX enjoy it - don't berate them. And don't bash those who fly BOTH.Sorry for the ramble. Stepping off soapbox ...ThanksJerryGP.S. And for me, I prefer FSX for it's look and better flight "feeling". I get average FPS of mid 20 - just about everywhere (even KSEA) except KJFK. I prefer GA. So, when I want 100% AI and big cities - I'll use FS9.

We should all be required to insert a quarter for every negative comment in any of our posts :)**Kev gets his wallet out and asks for changeheh :)

There are times I have the urge to go to every FS9 forum I can find and post: "I'm so glad MS finally got their act together and replaced that crappy FS9 they foisted off on us. Sure, like everyone else I couldn't wait for FS9 to come out but when it did what did we have? A program that wasn't ready for release, that no one could run maxed out, and that tooks a couple of years of tweaking, expensive hardward updates and expensive addon sceneries to make it half way decent. MS never cared about us...how long did it take for them to release one crappy update that almost fixed the bridge problem? I've uninstalled FS9 and will never install that piece of garbage again. From here on out the only program I'm running is FSX."Of course that would be just plain silly.

OK, let the FS wars begin. Who cares, I fly both and enjoy both and will continue to do so.Carlos

These "everybody love one another posts" are just as bad for bringing out the two extremes of FSX opinion. Maybe not in the initial post, but it doesn't take long for them all to come out of the woodwork (see where this thread is going already!). I say the mods should lock this up before someone gets hurt (again!)Gary
