December 6, 20205 yr Ran into a weird one tonight I haven't encountered before: Flying out of Ushuaia (SAWH) to SBEG on a SID, I was originally told climb to FL160 when given my initial clearance on the ground, the same altitude confirmed shortly after wheels up. After being handed off, all of a sudden I was being told to climb and maintain FL090 instead (I was probably around 5000' at the time and slowly climbing). I thought maybe it had something to do with my SID, but I don't see anything on it's chart limiting to 9000. Once I passed the end of the SID, I still never received any further altitude climb instructions. Gonna be an expensive flight gas wise taking a 747 3200NM at 9000' 🙂 Any ideas as to if this was a glitch or if I did something wrong? If it is a glitch, is there something I can do to jog a controller to send me up up and away?
December 6, 20205 yr Commercial Member Yes, if this happens, for whatever reason, ATC has likely somehow changed the assigned cruise altitude the remedy is to request a new Cruise altitude. "Callsign request new altitude of flight level 320". As long as there are no restrictions to prevent it, you should get cleared to the requested altitude and all should go normally from there. Dave
