November 23, 200619 yr Well, I am a big believer that FSX is great, that its issues will be resolved, and we will one day love it like we now do FS9, but that belief is getting harder to maintain! Here is my problem, needing expert FSX tweaking and hardware knowledge:I'll be flying allong somewhere, then FPS will drop due to AI traffic or something. If I were to, say, change views a few times or something to seemingly "overload" my comp, everything goes bananas. ALL the textures go blurry (clouds, ground, VC, you name it), FPS drop to maybe 3-6 and REMAIN there, and my shift-z ifo dissapears FOREVER. The only way to put the sim back to normal is to restart it. I dont know, guys. I love it, I'm trying, but it's beating me down. I have not flown in weeks but am on it every day, trying all tweaks and fixes to get my performance up, and I keep getting this dang hangup when I load the sim to test for FPS increases. I have all the FSX.cfg tweaks, smaller textures tweaks, and all the rest. Please guys, please. Dont let that evil FSX win and take the happyness I get from it away! Thanks a million in advance. Theses forums are sure filled with good people, always helping eachother...Its one of the nicer things about this hobby, in my opinion...The good company!Max LMy FSX.cfg tweaks:[Display]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=25TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=100TextureMaxLoad=10[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 Tweak is 0.33 , Default is 1.0[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1500 Default: =4500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000 Default: =3000[bufferPools]PoolSize=50000000 tweak is 50000000 , Default: 10000000My video card= ATI X850 Radeon Crossfire EditionCPU= AMD Athlon 64, 3500OS= Win XP
November 23, 200619 yr A couple of things! One the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION defaults to .33 not 1.0 so if you want your textures to load faster, you ned to increase this. Be careful not to go too high or you'll introduce stutters and/or reduce FPS. Second your PoolSize is too high! That needs to be 5000000 (5-million) not 50000000 (50 million)! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
November 23, 200619 yr At least your should begin with restoring your backup of the default fsx files and settings and start over.
November 23, 200619 yr Oooohhh!! Well, I knew something was wrong! Thanks guys, i'll go try that out now! Max
