November 25, 200619 yr I'm looking for any well made freeware prop planes from (generally) the 1940s or around there... I love the big prop planes like the B-17 and other similar ones. I usually fly the DC-3 in FSX (...and now the Beaver as well, since it has a similar look/feel).Can anyone point me to some good freeware ones? I've downloaded a number of planes in the past, but many are fairly disappointing (visually)... usually lame, cartoonish textures, or crude modeling or VC's.Heck, even the non-prop 'big warplanes' are good too...Actually, if they are really good, I certainly don't mind paying for them... but freeware is always nice. Thanks!
November 25, 200619 yr Vilk,Although you meant well by pointing him in the right direction the 'Junkers' is for FS9?He wants one for FSX. Dave Taylor
November 25, 200619 yr http://www.calclassic.com/Tom has decided not to upgrade his planes to FSX at this time (Understandable, it's a lot of work replacing FS98 gauges, especially in these cockpits with tons of gauges), but Jens has, and a lot of planes work anyway. I could swear at one time I saw an FSX version of the Boeing 377, but it seems to have disappeared. Perhaps it was put in the wrong folder at Avsim and was removed?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
November 25, 200619 yr meant well and did well. tried it? try it... i hope by your well-meant comment you didn't scare him away from one of the best vintage planes for fsx:-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161982.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161983.jpg

The FSDZigns L-049A Constellation will work in FSX, although it doesn't have a VC. A couple of minor mods are needed to get the fuel gauges to display fuel quantity but other than that it works fine. Due to some change in FSX as to starting engines, the normal starter does not work ( as is the case on many other FS9 aircraft in FSX ) but the "auto-start" icon on the FE's panel starts it up OK. If you decide to try it and want to know how to get the fuel gauges operating, just let me know. Paul
November 26, 200619 yr Hi, guys... Thanks for the input! That Junkers-52 looks pretty sweet. The other site is cool (I've been there before), but the planes have a very plastic look that stopped me from downloading them before (...I'm spoiled by the 'real' looking ones). Do they look better in FSX? Are the interiors done well?Strange that there's no B-17... (I love the B-17 and DC-3 type planes)I noticed that there were posts by people surprised there was no B-17 even back in the FS2002 days!I had one freeware one, but it's a little crude (...at least to my spoiled standards)
