November 26, 200619 yr HiDoes anybody make an aproach to LOWI with ATC? It seems strange the vectors and altitudes that ATC gives. Without visibility is almost impossible. Anybody can help about?
November 27, 200619 yr Haven't tried this approach yet in FSX but in FS9 they vector you into the side of a mountain. If ATC hasn't changed much as it appears it hasn't you better try the flight in VFR weather or else you may find yourself staring at a rocky mountainside with little chance to avoid it.Carlos
November 27, 200619 yr Use Jim Vile's curving approaches to LOWI in the Avsim library. They work the same in FSX as in FS9.You must ask for a transition though, not the novice vectors to final.FS has a very long way to go before it will deal with the issue of approaches which have to be flow below MSA.
November 28, 200619 yr I made two landings at LOWI this morning.From memory.....Take off from Munich at head south, 180-200 @ 8000. Tune the NDB to RTT, 303.0.The ILS for RWY 26, LOWI is 111.10, HDG 255, but beware, the ILS is off the runway so you'll need to fly the last couple of miles.As soon as you're overhead RTT turn and intercept the ILS, but don't descend yet, you need to clear a mountain first.Once you've cleared the mountain makea nice approach to LOWI, just handfly the last few miles.Hope this helps.Spools
November 29, 200619 yr Spools,Ditto that.....RTT is approach on ADFIt is an offset runway, so hand flying from about 6 miles out a must.As in previous Fs versions, LOWI is one of my fav approaches and destinations. FsFx is stunning at this approach, and I am on a low end P2.4 and Gforce 5500!Maderia is another classic 'scary movie' approach and landing.regards,
November 29, 200619 yr Or for a real challenge do the circling visual approach to runway 8. You will need the chart for this one. Innsbruck like old Kai Tak is always a difficult approach but very rewarding when you get it right.Regards, Carlos
November 29, 200619 yr Carlos,Yep..only problem is finding airport after 20 dizzy making circles!(lol)I am sure I made friends with Austrian family as I re plough their deligtful garden that to me looked like an airport!I have done the RTT approach so often that I can do it everytime, but still get a rewarding feeling on touchdown.Take off is fun, pedal to the metal climb and turn....My last real world flight to Innsbruck was cancelled and we went to Vienna. Real world pilot tells us that there are certain airports in the world that can only operate in daylight..as we were late to departure we would be dark when reaching LOWI..so, he for one, was not in anyway making any approach to LOWI at night time. So there!As always there were passengers mumping and moaning, with me thinking along the lines of ..well if he ain't happy, I ain't happy either, and Vienna it has to be!!!Do the pasengers want us to take a chance??? Community skiing in a 737?
December 1, 200619 yr HyThanks to all of you about your sugestions. In fact what I want to ask is if you noticed that ATC vectors are completlely wrong. They insist to mantain 9000 feet just over the airport. Sorry for my bad english that sometimes make me dificult to express what I want to say. Thanks to all anyway.RegardsAntonio
