Default scenery during the winter??

Featured Replies

Hi all,

this is my first time posting here. I was just wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I’m having with P3D. Basically, whenever I decide to do a flight during winter out of my home airport, Cork (EICK), I am seeing this very strange overlap on the Runways and apron markings. I’ll attach screenshots tomorrow morning but basically it seems that some sort of default scenery is overlapping on my scenery for Cork (FSX Eiresim on P3Dv4 [with some objects converted to p3dv4 using modelconverterx]), but only during winter, even during spring, summer, autumn, and even hard winter this issue does not occur. The airport is fine. Nothing overlapping. I have disabled my Eiresim scenery just to see what was overlapping underneath it and it looks like standard default scenery literally on top of my addon scenery. I hope that makes sense. I will attach the screenshots. Please note this only happens during the winter. I am indeed using ORBX Ireland.

If anyone has any ideas on what’s causing this or any potential solutions to this problem, please do let me know

All the best,

David

If you are familiar with ADE (Airport Design Editor by scruffyduck), I'd suggest using ADE to make an exclusion poly or rectangle under the offending area.

As I recall, certain characteristics of Excludes did change between v4 and v5 and it sounds like that's what you are seeing, since you're using a P3Dv4 scenery.

Hi,

I just installed ADE and tried to make an exclusion rectangle around the offending area. The source of the offending area is as follows:

C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Scenery\0501\scenery\BRX45130.bgl

So I open this using ADE and make the exclusion rectangle, compile the airport and its saved as:

C:\MSFS\FS Design Tools\Airport Design Editor 178\P34\Projects\EICK_ADEP4_DF.bgl

I tried putting that in C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Scenery\0501\scenery thinking that the bgl files might contradict each other but that wasnt the case.

If you have any idea what to do once i have complied the airport and made a bgl file i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your help so far

David

Hi David,

It sounds very strange to have default objects bleed through during one season only.
That said, flight sims aren't perfect and adding older FSX scenery into P3D sometimes causes it to throw a wobbly.

First question to ask you is whether you have renamed any EICK specific files in the folder location [...]ORBX\FTX_EU\FTX_EU_IRL_05_SCENERY\scenery as per Orbx's instructions?

e.g. the files ADE_FTX_IRL_EICK.BGL / ADE_FTX_IRL_EICK_CVX.BGL / FTX_IRL_EICK_objects.bgl renamed to ADE_FTX_IRL_EICK.BGL.OFF / ADE_FTX_IRL_EICK_CVX.BGL.OFF / FTX_IRL_EICK_objects.bgl.OFF

Second question: Why have you put your exclude file in amongst the default scenery?

I've found the best place to put any exclude is in the separate add-on scenery folder, so long as the folder is added to your scenery library.
As P3D runs on a strict library hierarchy (when using the scenery.cfg method), an exclude file with a higher priority than the default scenery, but below any add-on scenery, gives the desired exclude result 99% of the time.

That should work. Let us know if it doesn't.

Hello,

I have disabled the respective BGL files in the ORBX folders, the issue still occurs

Also, after putting that bgl file into the addon scenery folder, the issue did, once again, occur.

Thanks for the help but so far nothings working.

You need to put the exclude bgl in with the EICK bgl files.  Wherever you installed the EICK scenery, into, for example:

D:\Scenery\EICK\Scenery   <---- this is where you would put it

Disabling Orbx will not matter as from your description, you have default scenery bleeding through.  And on your exclude in ADE, make sure the relevant boxes are ticked, as to exactly what you want it to exclude.

Never add a bgl to the default scenery folders though.  That will produce unreliable results and not only that, get overwritten when you update the sim.

Yes, I should have made myself clear. That is what i did. I did indeed add it to my EICK/Scenery folder, and still no results.

It is worth noting that during the winter the ground textures immediately surrounding the airport also change.

I will attach screenshots with this.

Any other suggestions?

Yes, I'd go into ADE, delete the default runway, save the bgl, place it in the EICK\Scenery folder, and then start the sim in Winter, and see if that bleed-thru still appears.

Just tried that and I got the exact same outcome as I had been all along

It seems to me that in this situation, when the airport is loaded in winter, default ground textures overlap on top of my Airport Scenery. This has nothing to do with ORBX as I have tried to disable it and still same story. They are default ground textures overlapping over my Airport Scenery.
