How di I set up Oculus Quest 2 with X-Plane 11.5?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought Oculus Quest 2 over the holidays and have just gotten it to work with MSFS 2020 yesterday. It was fantastic! Next best thing to a real flight. Still hoping to get better resolution, but TBH I see more of the sights in the sim than when I fly a real plane.

I'd like to try it with the latest version of X-Plane 11 as well, but ran into an issue - when I enabled VR, I see a hangar on my monitor (with a disable VR button at lower left), but just 3 dots in my VR headset.

in MSFS 2020 I had a similar issue - in that case, the images for each eye are displayed on the monitor, and I got yellow screen in the VR headset. HDR was the problem; I had to turn it off in Windows as well as in game. ([Read First] VR Known Issues & Workarounds - Virtual Reality (VR) - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums) I also had to start and quit MSFS 2020 + my computer a few times before I saw OpenXR entry in RegEdit.

What do I need to do to get Quest 2 to work in X-Plane? I don't use Steam VR - do I need it?

How is it compared to MSFS? I’ve not jumped on the VR band wagon, but hopefully will do soon.

In terms of quality of the sceneries, MSFS is next-gen. you don't just see buildings as they are from the air - the elevation view is mostly accurate as well.

As a matter of fact, I was amazed that I could read the shop signs in my neighborhood - and they were accurate! Being able to see the world as they are in real life is quite a treat.

As far as the aircraft - the quality is the same as you see them in 2-D, in both MSFS and X-Plane. If they were well-made, they are great 3-D. I flew Airfoillabs C172 in X-Plane and it felt like a real plane. I must point out one thing in particular that made the experience so immersive, it surprised me: the light reflection on the gauges changes as I look around, just as you'd expect in real life. It was truly impressive.

I wish I could fly A2A planes in MSFS 2020. That would be the best of all worlds.
