FS X Loading time

Featured Replies

Is it just me or does it take an unusually long time for this simulator to just load? And after you select a plane it seems to take even longer to load everything.I have a 3.5 GHz P IV with 1 GB RAM. I would think it should load faster.Rob

The initial start up takes a bit for me, but after that is isn't bad at all. Take into account, the size of the install, there is lots more to load now than in FS9.Regards, MichaelKDFW

Hello Rob,For optimization reasons, FS X will load the default flight before even getting to the user interface. So, if the default flight is complex and dense, then it will take a very long time to load. Then, when you choose your flight, it must load that, and this will take a long time, because FS X pre-loads a lot more than FS 9, again for optimization reasons, so that it does not have to stop to load in flight (stutters). There is a recent thread by Chris Wright here in this forum where Adam Szofran offers a solution to prevent pre-loading the default flight.Or, you can choose a visually-undemanding location and make that your default flight, and it will load much quicker. Please note that FS X files contain a lot more information than previous versions, and therefore take longer to load. You can attenuate the effect with the settings sliders - for example, set Level Of Detail Radius to the lowest and you will load a lot less data.Best regards.Luis

May depend on sytem specs and memory. I have 3 gigs on a core2duo and it loads up much faster after going from 1 gig to 3, especially going into a flight. With one gig it was pausing at about 82% for about 20-30 seconds, now it pauses for about 2 seconds. I think it's the textures loading so with 1 gig it may have been throwing them on the HD, now it sends them to memory? Anyway, much quicker load times all around.Ian.
