V-Sync

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anybody help me ?

MSFS keeps setting V-SYNC on at 30fps even though I turn it off am I missing something obvious here?

This has only happened last few days I have a 6800XT and a Ryzen 5800 i can easily do 60 fps @ 1440p I just don't understand why its started doing this.

I have a freesync monitor never had this problem before.

RYZEN 7 5800X3D EIGHT CORE 4.5GHZ,  CORSAIR CMK64GX4M2E3200C16 VENGEANCE LPX 64GB  XFX   AMD Radeon RX 9070XT (16368 MB)

MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI Samsung U32J59x (DisplayPort) [31.5" VA LCD] Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD ZP1000GM30002 (ITB)WDC WDS100T2B0C-00PXH0 (1TB)

I would set it to 60 fps and off again (cycle the options switches) just in case, and save the config again.

Then if it still does it, it must be an outside program, maybe the one for your ATI graphics card.

There are other settings for your graphics card that can cause this other than the FPS setting, such as refresh set at half monitor rate.
Therefore, if you have a 60Hz monitor, it will halve the refresh rate down to 30.

Hopefully an ATI card expert will come along with more advice if this doesn't work, as I have had Nvidia for the last 10 years or so.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

There is obviously something going on with the ingame VSync. When i set it to 30Hz i get 15 FPS.

Yes, this is a known bug.  It gives half refresh rate.

Asobo haven't bothered to fix it as MSFS runs in borderless windows mode, so Vsync isn't needed in any case - you shouldn't get any screen tearing.
Best advice is to turn vsync completely off in MSFS or it will interfere with frame rates - and not normally in a good way.

If you want 30 fps, you can set it to 60 in game and see how it goes, but it is better handled by an external program such as Rive Tuner SS I have found - super smooth with that!

Edit:  Just to add that people sometimes get vsync confused with frame rate.  It is a slightly different thing.  Vsync stops screen tearing, but fps limiters are best to get your desired fps.

Strange enough if i set it to 60FPS i get pretty much 60FPS. So its not half refresh rate in general.

I'm getting the best result with Monitor @ 30Hz and ingame Vsync set to 60FPS. Smooth all the way.

But still i' sure this isnt the way its meant to work though.

It is so different for people with different systems that the best way to go really is just 'what works for you'.  Experimenting is part of the fun sometimes as long as it goes right eventually!

True! But after all i'd wish there was one setting that does it all for everyone 😄
