FSX 3-monitor setup - Best-matching GPU for I7-4770+16GB RAM

Featured Replies

First of all, I'd like to say that I'm aware of my limited configuration (due to limited budget) and I do not expect high-settings. Although I'd love to have a great visual experience with high-level of reality and high details, I'll be fine with moderate or even low settings, as I mainly intend to practice procedures. Since I've read many posts that actually caused me even more dilemmas (some say that FSX is mostly CPU intensive, others that it works much better with Nvidia than AMD cards and finally that multiple monitors require considerably more VRAM) I'd like to ask for some help with choosing the best -matching GPU for the following configuration:

  • Configuration: 3xSamsung P2450 24", Intel I7-4770, 16GB RAM, Crucial MX500 SSD, Seasonic SS-520GB 520W
  • Shortlisted graphic cards: GTX1060 6GB, GTX1660 6GB, RX570 8GB, RX580 8GB

My first choice is GTX1060 6GB, or if more VRAM is needed RX570 8GB, as those those two are the most budget-friendly. If however those cards won't be sufficient, or I can get significantly better results with other cards (even the ones not listed), I'm open to any suggestions. I'm open to even more expensive cards, as long as it won't be overkill to my configuration.

Notes: GPU will be used for FSX only. I won't be playing other games so I'm not interested in overall GPU performance, rather FSX performance only. If my overall configuration is too slow for 3-monitor setup, what's the best card for single or dual monitor setup?

Many thanks

As you said, FSX does not put a heavy load on the GPU, so I would vote for the 1060 if budget is a concern.

Will I be getting anything with GTX 1070 8 GB? Or that's an overkill for my configuration?

If you have the budget, I would always suggest getting the 1070 over the 1060  (the 1070 is what I fly with..)

But for FSX, I doubt you will see a big difference.

Edit: Depending on what you can actually find in the store, the 1660 series would also do the job nicely.

😉
