December 22, 200619 yr Hi AllHas any one noticed that the baron and the C172 loose an unrealistic amount of power as they climb above 2000 feet, even at 8000 in the baron I can not maintain altitude at full throttle even after correctly leaning, this is very unrealistic. I have done all the tweaking again and can only get sub standard performance, the under power issue is just the icing on the cake. Time to go back to FS9 which i feel is way ahead of FSX at the momentRegardsWayne Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
December 22, 200619 yr I haven't had this problem at all. Can you give more specifics? The piston aircraft will loose about an inch of manifold for every thousand feet you go up-but what you are describing sounds strange.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 22, 200619 yr I don't see the problem either. Cessna 172's are gutless at any altitudes! But other than that, I usually begin the flight at a 4600' msl airport to start with, and keep up with leaning proceedures. In all these months, you'd think I would have noticed by now. I guess it's not really icing on the cake, and I'll keep using FSX.L.Adamson
December 22, 200619 yr Hi AllYes I am leaning the mixture and it is happening so I am off to enjoy FS9 good luck with FSX, thanks for your adviceRegardsWayne Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
December 22, 200619 yr Hi AllSorry this was not an FSX slander and i did detect some sarcasm in L Adamsons message likely due to the way i worded my message so sorry for that, the last thing i want to do is start a pissing match between the two versions, id rather go and fly FS9 to be honest, this mixture issue is a real problem for me among other performance issues with FSX, I am happy if this is not happening for you. enjoy FSX those of you that can, I am heading back to FS9 and will still tinker around with FSX and take another look when I get a new PC and it matures more, Merry Christmas allRegardsWayne Such Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
December 22, 200619 yr >Hi All>>Sorry this was not an FSX slander and i did detect some>sarcasm in L Adamsons message likely due to the way i worded>my message so sorry for that, the last thing i want to do is>start a pissing match between the two versionsThere is probably sarcasm in about half of my replies... :D But in reality, Geoff owns a real life Baron, and I fly out of real life high altitude airports, where I usually end up around 9-12,500' just to miss mountains; and I do the same in the sim. We just haven't noticed a problem with this, and generally, it's something I'd notice right off the bat. I remember when new versions of Flight Unlimited, Fly, and Pro-Pilot suddenly ended up with underpowered aircraft from the previous versions. And FWIW, I use both FSX and FS9, as each has some good aspects, that the other does not.L.Adamson
December 22, 200619 yr AgreedIn reality I do like FSX and it will kill FS9 once performance is increased and the addons wont kill it, its great for VFR so i look forward to using it down the track, i will be more careful how i word things in future as I dont want to be branded as one of those trouble makers that just troll the forums spreading negativity, i hate coming to the forum for that reason, hope you have a great christmasRegardsWayne Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
December 26, 200619 yr The 172 is low powered anyway-quite frankly if I'm going to do any GA flying outside of my home airport area (KTOA) i will usually take at least the Mooney, or maybe the Baron. I have tried and tried and haven't ever got the 172 to climb more than 60kts (Oh wait, that's what it really does, LOL) and I like to do the climb to cruise altitude before I give myself a bit of break and set the autopilot and GPS and all that. I don't know much yet about flying twins in r/l, but can't the props be used in a situation like this? And of course at altitude you do have to lean your mixture, I do mine "by ear", when the engine starts whining again like on take off thats my setting :)It also might have something to do with altitude (if you're leaving a high altitude airport like McCarran or Denver), and what the weather is
December 26, 200619 yr Author I've never seen that here so far. And I fly the baron quite a bit.. "it's my startup flight aircraft". But I've notseen this with the cessna or mooney either, both of whichI've flown a good bit. For this to happen, I would guess either the mixture is wayout of whack, or you have an icing problem. To test the mixture to see if it's the problem, try going to the realismmenu, and select automatic mixture adjustment. If you stillhave the problem, it wasn't due to the mixture. To test for icing, you would need to change the weather to warmand see if it still does it. IE: if you use a startup flightwith cold icy real wx, maybe that is the problem. Icing willsure cause the problem you see. Mixture is not quite as critical,at least at low altitudes, but I'd still try auto mixtureand see what happens. BTW, when I fly the 172, I usually climbout at about 90 knots. If I were full power, and slower than that, I would pitch down to build up to about 90, and then resume the climb at a speed which will do about 90.. Which willusually be near the default appx 700-900 fpm climb rate, whileat full throttle. I'll usually bring the throttle back a bit oncea steady rate..Anyway, I haven't had any trouble with those here. BTW, I preferthe baron at the lower altitudes, but often prefer the mooneyif I'm gonna climb way up high on a long trip. At high alt, it's about as fast, or maybe slightly faster than the baron. But the baron will outrun it at lower altitudes. For the really long trips, I'll take the lear 45. FS9? What is that? LOL.... I haven't flown a single flight on fs9since I got fsx...I've started it twice to compare textures, butfs9 has been a dead sim as far as actually flying. I'll keep it on my drive though, probably as long as I have fsx going. When fs11comes out, fs9 will be dumped, and fsx will replace it as the "dead"sim..LOL.. MK Mark Keith
