December 23, 200619 yr Has anyone noticed the "Lack" of detail/resolution in the FSX terrain map mode verses the FS2004 map?Terry
December 23, 200619 yr Sorry Terry,I notice just the opposite.FS9 had to have addon to even get 79m detail. X ships with 38 for the US and I use Raimondo's 10m for the western US. Quite visibly more detail in map mode.It might show less if you have a lower resolution selected in the scenery settings. I rarely run less than 38m.Loyd. Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
December 23, 200619 yr Loyd, Changing the detail resolution to even 1 meter in FSX does not improve the mountain detail in the map mode of the GPS. Looks like one step backwards for the new version.Terry
December 23, 200619 yr >Loyd,>> Changing the detail resolution to even 1 meter in FSX does>not improve the mountain detail in the map mode of the GPS.>Looks like one step backwards for the new version.>Just a wild guess--Perhaps they decided to downgrade the map detail for a closer approximation of what the GPS units they're somewhat replicating can achieve. For instance, the Garmin 295 hand-held & 530 panel mount units, don't have the topography detail that's borrowed from the MSFS menu map page. It would take something along the lines of Garmins new 496 hand-held to get that kind of topography resolution. As far as the map page goes, it appears that my FSX version is the same as FS2004's.

The only minor changes involve syntax, but those won't affect the topo map display... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
