April 2, 20215 yr A beta is released! while everyone is badgering about graphics improvements we all know are coming, now it is possible to edit every peace of auto-gen using WED. As someone who tried to poke the roads.net file for a while now this one is a huge release to me. IMO, and just as a nice theory, this is the foundation for a full gateway world, as they currently stated it's not supported YET on the gateway until Xplane will introduce improvements to the way it renders it's world. Even if not, the great addition about it is being able to depict every obstacle, create actual 3d bridges in airports that'll have all the cars etc.. currently it was about modelling and trying to somewhat align stuff, now it can be just a matter of replacing some artwork. GO check it out!

It is possible to SEE the autogen, not manipulate it (except for killing it with exclusion zones). You can actualle EDIT the road (+ railroad and powerline) networks, but so far this is not possible for uploads to the Scenery Gateway (although that is planned). It is a huge step forward definitely, but not quite the stepstone to the "full gateway world" you dream about, that one would require not only editing autogen, but also mesh, landclass and a few other parameters.

Xplane already places buildings and auto-gen where they should be. Where it lacks is a better depiction of what kind of auto-gen style is there which can be changed by a library file, but before it was a real pain in the a** to know what file i'm looking at, mainly speaking about the roads.net file that lacks documentation. But yeah hopefully manually changing where auto-gen is placed and editing the mesh is something they are looking at for the future. Edited April 2, 20215 yr by akita

(lot of scenery already ship them) could even sync upstream with osm itself so everybody wins Edited April 2, 20215 yr by mSparks AutoATC Developer
