May 7, 20215 yr I'm considering a desktop (finally, after 8 years of flying in laptops). While for GPUs I had to settle for a 1650 (not willing to pay today's prices), I'm trying to decide between an Ryzen 7 3700x and a Ryzen 5 5600x. While both appear to have the same performance, the former is 8-core and the latter is just 6-core, but apparently has better single-thread performance: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-8300H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3700X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-5600X/3254vs3485vs3859 There's no 5700x AFAIK, and going to a 5800x is out of my budget. Cost here is around $50 less for the 5600X. I intend to use it for P3D4, FSX-SE and maybe maybe MSFS (if I give them another chance). Which one would suit me better? May 8, 20215 yr 5600x all day long. When I sold my 8700k setup, to go AMD, I was let down on the 5800x I had pre-ordered by the supplier. I bought a 2nd hand 3700x to tide me over, and then managed to get a 5600x just after launch day. The difference between them was night and day, so much so that I've had numerous opportunities to get a 5800x since, and am not bothering and sticking with the 5600x Hope this helps P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive. July 8, 20214 yr Author Sorry for the delay, @Charlatan, but I wanna thank you very much! As you may see in signature, I finally bought the 5600X (and an air cooler), and definitely it's a godsend for 4.5! Two questions: 1) How high did you overclock it? 2) Are you using SMT? I'm not (and no AM at all but sending ActiveSky and PF3 to the last cores), but I feel I'm missing something (apart from the extra threads)... July 8, 20214 yr Good to hear. I haven't even tried clocking it. I'm using PBO where its boosting to about 4.7ghz. Yes, SMT is on. Don't forget, that 1650 is probably bottlenecking the system P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive.
