Avro York

Featured Replies

One aircraft I wish to add to my P3Dv5.1 hangar is the Avro York. A 'conversion' of the Avro Lancaster bomber of WWII fame it was powered by 4 Merlin engines. As a very young (!) child I flew from London to Johannesburg with BOAC in an Avro York in 1948. I would really like to replicate that flight.

Now I did find one that worked in FSX SP2 Acceleration, and I still have the files. However it is not recognised in P3Dv5 despite following the P3D instructions. One suggestion was that it needed an .xml file.

Is there anyone who could assist in either making my Avro York folder and files work in P3D? Is it possible to create an .xml file and add it to my folder? I'm possibly asking for the impossible, but I would like to know the answer anyway. I have no knowledge or experience of programming, but can follow detailed instructions very well! Is there someone sufficiently challenged that they might like to create a new Avro York for P3Dv5?

I am holding my breath!

Your topic is now in the appropriate forum.  Your request had nothing to do with the AVSIM Library.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

roadrabbit. First question, In the model folder is there an interior mdl file? IF there is not then the model will never show in P3D. P3d requires an exterior and interior model to display vehicles. A lot of the older FSX stuff used texture mapping and hence a variety of textures to create a VC. They can be converted but that is a major job and you would need to use Model Converter to do it and create an interior model. A lot of these FSX models were port overs from MS2004 and earlier the port over meant creating a new FSX compliant (the hex coding) mdl file again a Model Converter job.

IF it does have an interior model then it should show up unless there are incorrect lines in the aircraft config somewhere! Then you only have to worry about the guages sound etc being 64 bit compliant, basically thats about it!

roadrabbit. I had this one parked in my workbox because it was done by Manfred Jahn a very accomplished sim model creator. I checked it and there is no interior mdl file so alas it will not work in P3D until it is converted or redone either by Manfred or somebody else.
