June 8, 20214 yr Hi folks, I have a problem with getting MSFS to recognize different sound devices on the same laptop. My external monitor has a jack into which I have plugged in external speakers. When this external monitor+speakers is plugged in, I hear normal sounds. But when I disconnect the external monitor (thus also removing the external speakers), there is no sound from MSFS. I am also having many CTDs that may only be occurring when the external monitor is not plugged in. How do I set MSFS to recognize the laptop's built-in sound-device? Whether or not the external monitor/external speakers combination is plugged in, MSFS Sound>Communications Selection is showing as "Default."

Not all systems are capable of switching the sound device on the fly, sometimes you need to restart the application. In general if you quit MSFS, disconnect the monitor, change the sound device in use from the speaker icon in the system tray and restart MSFS, it should work. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
