Rudder issues fixed?

Featured Replies

Been away from the sim for a few weeks, and finally got a chance to fire it up last night. It immediately downloaded a mandatory update, not WU5, although it did grab that too.

I booted up my trusty JF PA Turbo, and headed for the runway. Upon trundling down the runway I braced myself for the 60-knot shenanigans that normally have me careering across the runway like a clown on a unicycle, but they didn’t happen. Instead, all I got was a light twitch as the wheels departed the tarmac. I thought it was maybe a fluke, so then tried several take offs and landings, and each one played out similarly.

Adobo have definitely been under the bonnet and the sim feels a lot nicer now on take-offs. The little twitch just before flight still feels a tad severe and unrealistic, but is considerably better than what I was experiencing previously.  I noticed the improved behaviour before I downloaded the latest version of the Piper Arrow, so I know that it is Asobo’s work and not Just Flight’s that has brought the new characteristics. Anyone else noticed an improvement?

you have rudder assistance turned on.  The little twitch into the wind is a give-away characteristic of this.

It's OK though.  I have it on and will leave it on until they fix it, as the ground handling / response to wind on the ground is still troublesome.

You can see the issue all over people's YouTube videos.  It can make seasoned sim pilots look like amateurs.

A lot of people say it is the torque response that is overdone to some single props.

Some, such as the Spitfire etc. do require a fair degree of skill and control (doing the 'rudder dance'), but you get the weaving about on low torque aircraft as well, and even the jets!

Some will say having the rudder assistance on for take-off and landing is unrealistic, but I don't care, as the current behaviour without it is even more unrealistic, and it spoils my take-offs going from one white borderline to the other.  If you saw this in real life in light winds, you would be worried and want the pilot to be grounded! 😀

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yes, I do have the rudder assistance set to “on”. I manned it out for a long time, adamantly refusing to allow any assists before it became too much. Switching it on made things vaguely sensible. Although the last update has definitely made the situation much better for me.

Exactly the same as me then.  I can at least enjoy flights now.
