Momentary Rocker Switch Versus Power Button

Featured Replies

Hey Forum.

I am doing research for my next computer build and I am thinking I want to go with a rocker switch to power on the PC. The power button on my current 4 year old case is starting to become worn from the many times its been pressed and now I have to find the sweet spot and hold it for the PC to fire up. Like it's no longer aligned with whatever button is under it.

I had the idea of using a rocker switch but it springs back to the off position once its been pressed on. The simulators at my college use them and they feel fantastic. How can I implement this feature in my new build? If the case I want to use does not have a rocker power switch is there some way I can retro fit one in?

Thanks!

Pc's on switches are normally wired to the motherboard via low voltage. If you identify the current switch as a simple on and off, then any switch will work. If, however, your pc has has a momentary on switch, you need to replace it with a momentary on switch. Some of these things matter in case there's a power outage, some pc will remain off. Other pc will come on. This is dependent on the type of switch that a particular motherboard uses. In your case, disconnect the pc from the outlet and reconnect it. If the pc comes back on, you have a normal on and off switch. If not, then your switch is normally off switch and momentary on. You can then replace that switch with an equivalent rocker switch.

Thanks guys for the input! I'm browsing some other resources and it doesn't seem impossible.
