That's actually a system component that crashed, part of Microsoft Cortana.  It's your operating system that's crashing, and apparently taking P3D with it.

If you get this same program failure repeatedly, I'd run SFC to check for a corrupt system file.  If you're getting other similar program crashes, my first thought would be to look for an unstable overclock or a failing RAM module.

How can I fix this? I ran sfc scan steps, and it stated that it fixed some corrupted files. But, I am not overclocking my CPU, and my RAM looks good. Can you please suggest me, on doing something? Because it happens on its own whim. I have my event viewer full 1000s of BackgroundHostTask.exe crashes, though I did not notice any crashes. But, now I am realizing my sim is affected from BackgroundHostTask.exe crashes, because Windows 10 shuts down P3D also! I am frustrated, what should I do now?

When you say your RAM looks good, what does that mean?  Passing the system POST test isn't a good measure...I'd recommend something like an overnight run of Memtest 86+ to make sure you don't have a DIMM straddling the ragged edge of stability.

Also, reseating cables to storage devices and reseating SSDs may not be a bad idea.

With "thousands" of crashes in the log, you may be looking at a Windows reinstall and a rebuild of your software configuration...unfortunately, corrupt system files are like cockroaches--there's never just the one.

I did not have any problem with Windows 10 previously! It worked fine. This looks new to me. And I reinstalled Windows 10 some days ago. Previously, P3D used to crash sometimes with terrain.dll error, and that got fixed, with the Windows installation. Now after reinstalling windows, I have BackgroundTaskHost error logs flooded in my event viewer. This also crashes P3D along with it.

Given that SFC found corrupted system files in a days-old WIndows installation, I'd *really* be looking hard for a hardware issue, particularly an iffy DIMM or storage device.  I'm assuming you've done due diligence in ensuring you don't have a virus or malware in any of the software you've installed so far.

I'd start by uninstalling P3D and all other software that tracks activation, removing and reseating cables, M.2 SSDs and RAM modules, then running MemTest 86+ for at least 8 hours if you haven't already.  Reinstall Win 10 with a clean Win 10 installation--not an "upgrade" or "repair" install that keeps all the old registry entries.  Run SFC on it right after installation, and then run it for a while with stock applications like Edge to see if the problems occur with a bare-bones installation of the OS, then slowly build up from there keeping a close eye on the error log to see if/where it might reoccur.  You might also consider a fairly long (8-12 hour) run of a stress test (I use RealBench) after the Win 10 install and SFC check.

I installed Malwarebytes some days ago, and it found 18 threats, which are currently deleted. They seemed to be Bitcoin Miners, or some malware, hidden in my PC pretending to be an important system file. Windows Defender cannot recognize them, but Malwarebytes did. Actually I did not configure Cortana, and it shows that my Windows App Store, Cortana, and other default Windows apps are crashing. BackgroundTaskHost.exe is a file used by Cortana. But sometimes P3D also crashes with it. My PC is fast, and stable. Other apps do not crash. So I don't think it is a hardware problem. I think it is down to a specific software problem, which I cannot track.

OK, it seems likely to be a malware/virus issue then.  I'd start with a fresh download of the Win 10 installation image made on a known clean system, wipe every drive on the system, and do a clean reinstall of Windows as described earlier--not a "repair" install.  Then get a fresh redownload of every software title you intend to install and scan each one with something better than Windows Defender.  I use ESET NOD32 here...there are others.  It sounds like you have an infected installer...an AV may be able to find a virus or a known trojan, but ferreting out one or more of the less well-known trojans embedded in an installer that you run explicitly (especially with admin priveleges) is a more difficult proposition.

I found out that the Background Task Host is not causing a problem. I have rebuild my P3D.cfg file, but P3D still crashes with terrain.dll error

My P3D always crashes with terrain.dll error, sometimes while loading the scenario, at 70%, sometimes while descending, sometimes while cruising, it occurs on its whim. I have rebuild my P3D.cfg file (resetting all of my tweaks) but the simulator still crashes.
