Airport .EXE downloads

Featured Replies

A lot of...or a few of...airport downloads have .EXE installers.

I'm running P3Dv5.1...and just about all of the freeware airports that use the .exe installer are for everything BUT V5...

I've had luck with a lot of aiport downloads for previous versions....because they allow 'manual' insertion of the

"scenery" and "texture" files that will load into the v5 Scenery Library.   BUT...the .EXE self loader won't work !!!

Is there a way I can get into the .EXE file to get the 'scenery and texture' files out ???

Thanks for any help

Best thing to do is choose a custom place to 'install' the scenery. For example, create a fodler on your desktop and point the installer to it, then it will create the required folder structure in there. From there you cna just put the files and folders where you desire them, or even better, use Lorby's Addon Organzire to manually add the scenery using the addon.xml method.

If it really doesn't want to cooperate (sometimes installer checks for registries, and relevant .exes within that folder) you can use a program like UniExtract to extract the contents of the installer. As long as the installer isn't encrypting it's packages (usually installers from payware products do, like InstallShield) it should be able to extract the contents. The freeware installers are probably using InnoSetup, but i think places like Rikoooo uses their own installers, and so UniExtract may not be able to detect a pattern.
