Salamanders in Kodiak Pt2

Featured Replies

Todays Flight is a continuation ( After extensive repairs) of our Amphibian tour of the  of Kodiak Island in Alaska. This will be a multi-stop multiple short legged route with a combination of water and land departure/landings with some amphibian activities at stops. Carnage is to be expected . We depart from our destination from Pt1 from the substantial international airport at Kizhuyak Airport (KZH) an 820ft grass (snow) strip and head south further up into the mountains to land at Koniaq Peak (PZ03) From here we head NW to Zachar Bay Lodge Seaplane base (ZHR)  for a Water landing. From here we head south to Alf Island airpark (ALF) a 762ft gravel landing. Departing here , we head north to Amook Bay Seaplane base (AK81) for a water landing. Next NW up to Larsen Bay (PALB) a substantial airport. We now fly a longish leg west to Karluk (PAKY) another land airport. Next we head SE to Karluk Lake seabase (KKL) for a water or grass landing 🙂 Longo 1.3 mile leg next for an optional stop at Thumb Lake bushport ( TBLK) then onwards south to Deadman Bay (PZ07) another choice of grass or water landing. West next to Olga bay (KOY) another grass/water option for your pleasure. South next to Moser Bay (KMY) for a water only landing. Then South to Akhiok (PAKH) for a relaxing Asphalt landing.  Final leg of Kodiak we depart South to Sitkinak Island (SKJ) for a ,well earned, 5000ft asphalt landing and relax .

Thought it would be a good idea to check and be sure that my insurance was paid-up. The fellow seemed helpful and about to confirm matters when he asked who wrote the flight plan for Kodiak Island. After my answer, his eyes started to shift left and right and then down. He was trying very hard to come up with a response.

"Sorry sir, you policy does not renew renewed properly. Must be a computer glitch. Perhaps you might try another company..."

My insurance chap was satisfied when I explained "RTWR etiquette #1" would be utilised for leg 1 (his main concern).   *Always thoroughly scout your destination airfield prior to committing to the leg* 😉

I misinterpreted my UTC time as was very late but glad I could get in the last couple  legs.

Ciao!
