the current version of realtek V6.0.8960 causes problems
I installed an older one and suddenly there are no problems

The strange thing is, I've never installed any other driver before

Which older version number ?

Did asus also have the driver that failed on your setup available for download?

I checked my systems Device Manager
Sound, video and game controllers

I have :

Nvidia High Definition Audio driver
9/30/20
version 1.3.38.35

and

Realtek(R) Audio
8/13/19
version 6.0.8777.1

I am currently using Nvidia Garphics Driver 471.96

WIN10 has never previously had and currently does not have a newer driver available for my setup:
WIN 10 Home
21H1
6/19/20
OS Build 19043.1202
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

When you update Nvidia do you just update the Nvidia Graphics Driver or also Nvidia Experience and Nvidia Audio driver?
