XClass

Featured Replies

Warning: this post may contain a stupid question. Is XClass a landclass product or terrain mesh improvement? I've read the Cloud9 website and various posts and terminology is mixed, so I have no idea what the product does. Thanks,Chris

Hi Chris,It changes the way the urban, mountain, forest and desert textures are implemented to make the whole world (or the region if you don't purchase Xclass World) much more realistic. No more "sand" textures where it should be fields or grass textures, no more snow where it should be rock etc...I hope it answers to your question (which is absolutely not stupid! :-) )For me it has definitely improved FSXbest regards,David

Mesh does not change appearance of textures - only the hidden framework under the textures.Landclass is the textures.I'm not familiar with XClass - it's description is like a landclass product. Some people call landclass with additional customization as "Terrain". Microsoft calls Terrain the entire gamit of features from Mesh to LandClass to WaterClass to Utilities and some scenery objects. "map texture information for vector data (linear data such as roads, rivers, streams, railway lines, and so on) to polygon types and flattening information, and to control the automatic placement of certain features such as telephone poles, light poles, fences and power lines."

Thanks Dave,When comparing XClass to FS Genesis products, FSG has both a landclass and terrian mesh products and they do different things. With regards to XClass, is there product comparable to the FS Genesis Landclass or Terrain Mesh? The main reason I'm leaning towards XClass over FS Genesis is that XClass covers the whole world where FSG is just the U.S, but want to make sure I know what the product covers (and doesn't) before buying.Cheers,C.

It is a "landclass" product but doesn't change the relief (mesh) nor the coasts design or roads like Ultimate Terrain for FS9 does. Its purpose is to place textures where they should be.IMO, the best combination (if you can afford it of course) is to purchase the Xclass together with meshs from Genesis.I hope it helps :-)
