November 10, 20214 yr Last night Turner Classic Movies had two gems from Australia. Walkabout and The Last Wave. Walkabout is about a teenage girl and her little brother getting stuck in the outback. They eventually met an aboriginal boy on his walkabout and they team up. The ending is somewhat puzzling. You don't know if they return to civilization or go back to the outback and find the aboriginal boy who helped them. Some nudity but not erotic. Just matter of fact. This would have never played in the US in the 70s with a white girl and a black man swimming naked together in a pond. But it is tasteful. The Last Wave is about a white lawyer defending 5 aboriginal men for murder. Some of it pretty surreal. A lot of 'dreamtime' stuff I found very interesting. I like Australian movies and watch them whenever I have the opportunity. Some I'd like to see again are The Man from Snowy River and The Shiralee, The Sundowners and others I can't think of the titles now. One about a woman steamboat captain on the Murray River I think. And Oh Yes, On The Beach. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
November 10, 20214 yr I have noticed that Amazon is carrying a lot more movies from all over the world nowadays. I've seen a few Australian films but I mostly gravitate towards horror/ghost stories or movies where things are not as they seem. Not Australian of course but in the past few days Ive seen 'Circle Of Iron' which is Bruce Lees personal project that he died before completing. It stars David Carradine who is one of my favorites. Also saw 'Field Of Dreams' and just yesterday 'A Beautiful Mind'. Soon I intend to watch 'The Uninvited (Alex and Anna)' that is based on a movie called a tale of Two Sisters (Korean I think). Often times the original is better than the American remake but The Uninvited is much better...things are not what they seem. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. There's always a sunset happening somewhere in the world that somebody is enjoying.
