Hi Simbol,

AIG haas released a package for MSFS. I was wondering if there might be a MSFS version of your package as I miss those wonderful lights ….

Hi Gerard,

Asobo / Microsoft continues to classify the FX system as BETA, this means working with effects is very limited at the moment and also a very unstable / moving target to develop any serious effects with it.

Let me expand:

  • While the SDK state the old FX system is deprecated and should not be used (.fx files), the new effect system (still classified as Beta) cannot support any emitter to emit a light source, this means you cannot use the new BETA effect particle system to light up any surface.

  • The old FX system which do allow you to emit light, is being deprecated.. and it will not be developed any further with big warnings all over the SDK indicating it should not be used, so it would be unwise to do anything using it.

  • The old FX system has a very limited numbers of emitters allowed, this means even if I ignore the 2 points above, effects complexity such as the ones used for AI Lights Reborn cannot be supported, just as an example a typical Airbus would have around 20 emitters to simulate proper synchronised strobes.. that would not even work inside MSFS "Today."

  • The new FX system cannot be deployed as an standalone package, this means I cannot distribute just effects.. Asobo / Microsoft never meant for this to be the case it seems, I am requesting this to be enabled.. but I have zero feedback if it will ever happen.

In addition, the base SDK contains many limitations making it impossible to create something like AI Lights Reborn Pro at this point in time. For example, you cannot inject effects at will, and SimObjects are cached, in addition many function available with P3D SDK such as controlling AI traffic have been deprecated by Microsoft. Therefore the current live preview module cannot be implemented, meaning a calibration process would not be possible either even if I bypass the limited FX system as explained above.

So as you can see, it is not like I am not trying.. but the core of MSFS is lacking so much that the product development is not feasible for now...

Having said that, I am in constant talks with @Kaiii3 developer of AIGM who is aware of the situation with the FX system and also understand the current limits with it, and the idea is that if that when:

  1. The new FX system stops being classified as BETA and can also support light sources.

    AND

  2. AIGM for MSFS comes out of BETA (important to clarify, this product is also on BETA).

Then: The plan is to be working directly with Kaii to offer an FX solution (Most likely not named AILRP to bring expectations down) which will work ONLY and EXCLUSIVE with AIGM MSFS, but a big warning, most likely this product will be unable to support LIVE previews + live calibration of effects.. however to counter react the lack of this wonderful capability I might add "other features" so the price point can be maintained, but this means only AIGM can work with it since I need 100% collaboration from the 3D modelling designers.

Lastly, given I cannot port over anything from P3D to MSFS (Code, Effects, Forms, techniques, etc.), it means a full RE-BUILD of an application.. so I cannot offer any upgrade plan to current customers to it, pretty much, if this product ever make it to MSFS, it will be a a brand new thing created from scratch..

Hope this helps to understand the current positioning..

All the best,

Simbol
