VAinterface: Not able to find SimConnect.dll

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I have two Virtual Avionics devices that I love, the MCP and the EFIS panel.

I used the for years with my Prepar3d v5 now in combination with the PMDG 737

Unfortunately, after I installed windows 11 VAinterface can't find SimConnect.dll.

When I lunch the simulator de following text window pops up:

Not able to find SimConnect.dll, VAinterface will terminate.

Does anyone could help me?

Thank you!

Hey!

I’m having the exact same problem. Our logs report the same.

I’ve done digging and I think I’ve found the problem. Unfortunately not yet a solution.

What I’ve found is:

The folder it looks for SimConnect.dll in is part of the Windows/WinSxS-directory. Which, as I’ve understood so far, is made up of lots of hard links and not actual copies.

I have located all three SimConnect.dll-files in there. But the problem is that the folders that VAInterface looks for seems to be a little differently located in Windows11. The name is also a bit different. Instead of the path our logs report, it’s hidden in Windows/WinSxS/FUSION/… Fusion being the new guy making our lives miserable.

I’ve tried just creating a new hard link with the right name, but Window won’t give me permission.

Any idea?

I’ll write them an email as well.

Hey!

Yes!

First you need to change the owner of the WinSxS-folder to be your user or at least administrator.

Then you need to create the folder directory that VAInterface refers to in that log. Just create new folders.

Then copy the SimConnect-files that’s located in a folder under Fusion. Don’t remember its exact name, but choose the top of the three x86z.Microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect…”-folders. There are three if you’ve installed both the XPAC, SP1 and the default.

Copy them to the new folder directory you created according to the path mentioned in the VAInterface log.

Thanks for the tip,  I've been having the exact same problem with no response from support@virtualavionics.com.br

After following you tip I non longer get the error message, however, since I'm using P3D v5.3, I was wondering if I should copy those files in a different directory since the virtual CDU doesn't seem to show any of the contents from PMDG after connecting.

Could you confirm that your instructions were only applicable fo Microsoft F. Sim please ?

Thanks

Maz

You just need to install SimConnect again from P3D redist:

D:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib

run SimConnect.msi

then reboot

run VAInterface control panel, bring up CDU on iPad, hit connect and you should see the device connect here:

Make sure you have the latest version VAInterface_2.28.1.21684.msi

EDIT:  I recommend you install VAInterface on a separate drive or outside of any Windows protected folders ... i.e. D:\Virtual Avionics
