December 8, 20214 yr I made the switch from 4.5 to 5.3 and though it might be helpful to report on the HT on/off issue as I had a significant performance impact when switching today. TLDR - switching HT on got rid of terrible stutters with the PMDG 747. Under 4.5 I was using HT off as I was seeing quite a bit more heat with it on. HT off allowed a slightly higher overclock at 4.5 as my cooling is not great. I'm running an i7 8770k (6 cores) overclocked to 4.5 GHz, 32 GB of ram, GTX1080Ti (11 GB) overclocked to 1,708 MHz with an M.2 SSD. I did a clean Windows 11 install and installed Orbx Global, Activesky, Envshade and all scenery and other addons as fresh installs. In 5.3 my screen resolution is 3,840 x 2,160 with texture resolution at Ultra - 4,096 x 4,096. Most sliders are fairly high with Autogen draw distance on low. I have frames unlimited with vSync off. This was all the same in 4.5. I'm using EA in 5.3. I have FSLabs 319/320 and PMDG 747/777. Until yesterday I was experimenting with the FSLabs and the 777. I've completed a few flights and experienced no major performance issues, spent most of the time tweaking settings to get the lighting to my satisfaction and checking all my addon airports were working. Both the FSLabs and especially the 777 seemed to perform really well. I did a short 747 flight yesterday and noticed that there were a lot of stutters. Strangely, in 4.5 the 747 seemed to perform better than the 777 in terms of frames and smoothness. I tried a long 747 flight today from the US and noticed as soon as there was any clouds / haze that the stutters were terrible, this is particularly bad in the external view when panning the view around the aircraft. I tried changing various settings to see if I could eliminate the stutters to no avail so I decided to try HT on and almost all the stutters have disappeared. After the change I accepted the recommended optimization that P3D requests at startup. The frame rate seems to be a bit more variable but stays above 30. The CPU runs slightly warmer with HT on and is peaking in the low 80s, which is acceptable. So it seems that 5.3 and the PMDG 747 require HT on to avoid stutters on my setup.
December 8, 20214 yr Did you delete your prepar3d.cfg after switching HT in or off? With 5.3, you get automatically an AF entry, I doubt that this entry will change if you disable or enable HT without deleting the config. So probably it is just messed up due to this? No but when I launched P3D after the BIOS change P3D asked if I wanted to optimise the settings and I said yes to the restart.
December 8, 20214 yr Interesting, good to know, thanks. Might still be worth checking what it put in there, no? Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
