December 22, 20214 yr Hi all. Are there any known problems with Pilot2ATC running on a Windows 11 PC? I've been using P2ATC for about a year. Since I last used it, the PC has been upgraded to W11. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling (even as Run Administrator), but to no avail. When I run P2ATC, and hit Connect, the only message I get is "Simulator Connected". Nothing else. FSUIPC7 is installed and running. I also have the US language pack installed. In the current state, P2ATC doesn't interact with the SIM and the SayIT grammar is not displayed. Maybe I am missing something obvious, but I cannot see what! Any help or guidance gratefully accepted. Thanks Dave
December 22, 20214 yr Commercial Member Since only the one line is displaying, it sounds like your Speech Engine is not loading and is not able to load the Grammar. Make sure you loaded the US-English Speech Engine, as well as the language. Go to Settings->Time&Language->Speech and set the Speech language to English(United States). If that option doesn't show in the dropdown, you may need to go to the old Windows Control Panel->Speech and click on the English-US language, select options and then press the Speech button to install the English-US Speech engine. December 22, 20214 yr Author Hi Dave. I've followed your steps. In W11, the US speech is shown in the Settings->Time&Language->Speech and set the Speech language to English(United States). However, as you can see from the screenshot shown, going to the old Control Panel I get an error. Is this what is causing the issues? If so, is this a limitation of W11? https://ibb.co/BZRBF9n Dave
December 22, 20214 yr Commercial Member Instead of using the original Control Panel, try this: Go to Settings-> Time & Language -> Language Check that English US is at the top of the Language List If Speech is set up, there should be a microphone image on the English US language box Click on English US and select Options If there is a button for Speech, press it and it should install the Speech Recognition Engine Hopefully that will get you going again. December 22, 20214 yr Author Hi Dave. Unfortunately no luck doing as you suggested. I am getting two message boxes appear when I try to connect to the sim in P2A. The first says "Audio Input Device (microphone) not found". Pressing OK shows another message box "Audio input device (microphone) not found. Connect an audio input device and try again". Not sure if that is relevant. I've never had a mic connected to the PC as I have always used the "?" button to bring up phrases and then I get P2A to say it. Cheers Dave
December 22, 20214 yr Commercial Member In order for the Speech engine to work, it requires a microphone assigned as the default Speech input device. Laptops and some Monitors have built-in Mics, so in the past, you may have had one of these. You get an inexpensive headset, or even a cheap phone earbuds with a mic and 3.5mm jack and it should work.
February 13, 20224 yr Hi Dave, Unfortunately I'm having the same issue with the connection. It's been running for over a year with no problem but this last month or so it will not connect fully. Have checked all the above and reinstalled the English US pack etc. By coincidence it seemed to coincide with a Simconnect update but I know the software does not use that! Any help appreciated. Thanks
February 13, 20224 yr Commercial Member FSUIPC does use SIMConnect, and P2A uses FSUIPC. If the SIMConnect update caused a problem for FSUIPC, that could be the issue. You might want to check for an updated FSUIPC. Dave
February 14, 20224 yr One of the first things I tried was to uninstall fsuipc and install the latest version. Unfortunately it didn’t help. I’m on windows 10 btw. Edited February 14, 20224 yr by mal7
February 14, 20224 yr Commercial Member What exactly does it do when you press the Connect button the first time? What lines are printed in the Speech Text window? Does the Connect button turn green? etc.
February 15, 20224 yr It’s exactly as the OP. The connect button goes green and simulator connected is shown but nothing else.
February 15, 20224 yr Commercial Member That usually points to a problem with the Language settings or the Microphone missing or not working, preventing the Grammars from loading. Recheck the English-US Language settings as described in the Installation Guide and be sure there is a working Microphone connected. Be sure the English-US Speech Engine is installed along with the Language Pack. Dave Edited February 15, 20224 yr by Dave-Pilot2ATC
February 18, 20224 yr Sorry for the delay in replying. I double checked everything (all ok; microphone used for vPilot) but uninstalled P2ATC, US language pack and FSUIPC then reinstalled everything. Just tried connecting to FS without changing anything in P2ATC and it connected. Changed the call sign back to what it was and still ok. Will do a test flight Sunday.
