Startup Error: flight simulator cannot run without a valid scenery.cfg

Featured Replies

"flight simulator cannot run without a valid scenery.cfg"any suggestions?PROBLEM:FSX worked well with VFR GENX from Horizon but I wanted a clean install to try some new tweaking etc so uninstalled VFR GENX and then Flightsimulator X from the add/remove programs box then reinstalled both. (note: I did not run FSX between installing it and VFR GENX to check it worked.)Upon double clicking FSX icon error along the lines of "FSX requires an airport, a waypoint and an NDB as a minimum, please reintall FS"SO FAR TRIED:Uninstalled both FSX and VFR GENX then reinstalled FSX. Double clicking FSX icon gives error:"flight simulator cannot run without a valid scenery.cfg, please uninstall and then reinstall FSX. Click abort to exit"Deleting scenery.cfg gives error"scenery.cfg is deleted/corrupted, please reinstall FSX"Tried replacing scenery.cfg, fsx.exe fsx.cfg various times from various saved versions, none of which work.Any help is much appreciated as this is quite upsettingThanksAlistair

Yup, both a total uninstall and reinstall and the repair option have been tried, sorry forgot to mention that.

Don't know if you did this, but I would run a registry cleaner - even twice - and a reboot following any uninstall, Alistair.

Hi again.I've fixed it!Thanks for the tips, I had restarted after uninstalling and installing neither of which helped. In the end I uninstalled and manually went into the the registry, searched for and deleted anything to do with FSX and Horizon Simulations (I didn't think about a cleaner.)I then defragged, and ran spybot and adaware as well as norton antivirus sweep.Cleaned the CDs with CD cleanerInstalledand it works!I suspect it was the registry enteries that were causing the problem although I cannot be sure.BTW in regards to activation, I did it several times during this process and no problems were incurred at all. Thanks againAlistair
