May 15, 200719 yr >They mean it's one level UP from the FSX folder - not inside>it. The "parent" folder of FSX is "Microsoft Games". Full>default path (on a US-English WinXP install) would be:>>C:Program FilesMicrosoft Games.............Ah, thanks. No wonder I could not find it. The only reason I think it might be good to run it is that I did a fair amount of experimenting in the beginning with different imagery sources. Since I run a 3mb DSL connection it is not too bad to redownload. I like to keep things clean and right now I think I have a fair mix of textures from different sources in there. Upgrading this week to 6mbs down so it should be even less of a problem after that. Thanks very much for the pointer to the file.
May 15, 200719 yr FSX scans its own folder recursively when launching up. (WHY?)With 200.000 + files in the World folder, this became really slow.So I decided to move it one level up. However I have to admit the "Microsoft Games" folder is an awkward location for it.
May 15, 200719 yr I think it is a better place than down in the FSX folder. That way it is separate from the sim install itself.
May 15, 200719 yr >>FSX scans its own folder recursively when launching up.>(WHY?)>FSX scans all folders in the Scenery.cfg on start-up in case files have been removed/added.
May 15, 200719 yr So, in retrospect, let's say:1) You "should" but dont have to cleanup the TileProxy Photoreal World folder before each FSX session. 2) By leaving the cache files alone, when FSX needs them it will find them there first and thus avoid downloading them "again", but will not look for them in the TileProxy Photoreal World folder. And am I correct in saying it will NOT look for them in the TileProxy Photoreal World folder so it will only be recreating them anyways so dont leave them there?Al
May 15, 200719 yr But that is a bit contradictory to what I found. After moving the folder up, FSX launched much faster for me.
May 15, 200719 yr regarding 1)cleaning this folder makes sense: - if your HD space runs low - if you experience that the large number of files in there slows down you FSX on startup. - if you switch between the services (e.g. Google/MSN) and you intend to fly in an area that has previously been downloaded from the other serviceregarding 2)If a BMP tile is missing or if TileProxy needs a higher resolution than is currently present, it will need the cache folder. If it can't find ALL jpegs in there required for "assembling" the BMP tile at the intended resolution, it will have to access the network.
