V5.3 hotfix 2 bad pauses and stutters

Featured Replies

Is anyone here still experiencing pauses and stutters with the current version of 5.3? I just switched from v4.5 a couple of days ago. To my understanding v5 was suppose to be better at performance than v4 but I’m experiencing stuff that I have not seen since P3Dv3!!! Whenever I take off my sim automatically starts stuttering to the point I can’t even control my aircraft. Then it’ll go away but return if I make a turn and the auto gen is generating something. But then it’ll do it whenever there is nothing to generate. I did some research and found that the hotfix 2 was suppose to fix these issues. But I am a newbie to v5.3 and I’m experiencing this with a fresh download! Crazy part is, this is with no add-ons installed. My system is moderate with a i7-8700K and RTX 2070. And also 32 gigs of RAM. So average. My settings are average to low end as well. I sacrifice performance for looks I always have. So I’m puzzled as to why I’m getting this bad performance. So far I am not pleased with v5. Im kind of glad I waited so long to make the jump but I’m now I am word not allowed that it’s not what I expected. So has anyone had these issues and resolved them? I’m willing to try some options if they are presented to me. So far I set up an affinity mask (not to go into a AF debate we’ve had enough of those), and I also deleted my shaders to see if that helped. Oh yeah and repaired P3D as well. So far no luck.

Okay thank you Ray, I will give it the ol’ college try and see what it does. I will report back with my findings.

Okay so sadly I followed the advice of the post you attached and still horrible stuttering as soon as my aircraft leaves the ground. I also downloaded process lasso to make sure my background apps were not running on the same cores as P3D. So I’m still scratching my head as to why I’m having these issues…

Paste your JobScheduler settings. I’ll check them against mine tomorrow given we both have a 6 core CPU.

What aircraft and what airport for your test? Monitor running at 60Hz or 30? Resolution?

okay sooooo oddly enough I went into my P3D library and disabled ORBX land class scenery. And wouldn’t you know? No stutters. I reactivated them and I got stutters again. I’m not saying it’s ORBX because I looked at their forum and nobody is really complaining about this issue but that could be the cause. My library is in order…. I think. I have it mirrored just the way it was with v4.5. I’m going to post in the ORBX forum just to see what they say. But that could be my cause. And also I alway use a default aircraft for testing which is usually the F-35. And my monitor is at 50hz with 1080p resolution

I FOUND THE CULPRIT. It was ORBX Vector. I would turn it off and fly and no bad stutters or pauses and I’d activate it and I got the bad stutters. Doing some more research there is actually a separate Global Vector for V5 than P3Dv4. So I think that’s what happened. When I made the switch I just assumed my original ORBX Vector was compatible with V5.

I'm not surprised.  ORBX Vector adds an immense amount of vector data to the sim plus has to exclude the stock data. The scenery engine has to load a lot more data for a given area.  Moreover, I discovered that if I brought up the GPS or Nav maps they would take a long time to load the data which was causing my cpu load to increase a lot.

I've found that ORBX Vector isn't really necessary any more as v5 has updated stock vector data which so far is pretty accurate in the many areas I've flown in.

So in another twist, I found that I did install the correct version of vector it says P3Dv5. It’s just for some reason my rig cannot handle vector in v5 like it did in v4. How odd. But tbh I couldn’t tell the difference between it being on or off in v5 so I’m uninstalling it and calling it a day! With it off my sim is smooth as butter.  🧈

@Deltaair1212, it had to be something external and others have reported that Vector adds little to v5. Your JobScheduler settings match mine.

Glad you found the solution. 👍
