A new problem! Since late last night, Edge crashes 2 seconds after I start it. This happened after I had a BSoD ("CRITICAL PROESS DIED", which has since happened a second time). Strangely, I can right click the shortcut and open a new InPrivate window (which I'm using right now to type this) and it remains stable, but as soon as I then try and open a regular Edge window, both will CTD. Whether connected or not, this issue occurred a few days after I installed an optional update for DtsApo4Service.exe (as in DTS audio) and there is no option to roll back so I've disabled that service but it hasn't helped. I have also been unable to roll back using System Restore as it always fails to work for some reason. I tried repairing Edge and then repairing Windows with the Create Media Tool but neither has solved the problem.

If I can't solve this latest issue it's beginning to look like I'll be wiping and re-installing Win11 and MSFS all over again!🤬

I gave in and re-installed Win11 from scratch. Now running a massive 13-14hr full backup, following a Windows only one!🕞

And then it's reinstalling MSFS etc...

Sometimes rebuilding over scorched earth is faster than trying to troubleshoot an esoteric fault.

Still, it sucks.  My condolences...

Thanks Bob. Like you say, sooner or later you get to the point when you've spent more time trying to fix an issue than it would have taken to start from scratch.

So far, the only hiccup I've had is Macrium Reflect not telling me I had insufficient space for the backup until 13.5 hours had passed by!😶 That's the first time I've run a backup program which didn't estimate the space needed and warn me there wasn't enough before starting the process. So I've been spending the last couple of days tidying up my files and preparing to offload what I can to external storage. I'm also being side-tracked a bit by trying to recover an unreadable external drive which I'd set aside a few months ago.

Also a bit annoyed I didn't uncheck the option for Windows Update to install drivers automatically as it wants to install an AMD Display driver, despite me having the latest one direct from AMD. I've read that can cause issues but I don't think I can stop it doing it on the next reboot as it's already "Pending install".

So it could be a few days before I am flying again, but at least I will hopefully have a properly functioning OS as a base...🤞

I'm trying this suggestion to cancel pending installs, so fingers crossed it worked after my next reboot, which will be done after the following completes:

 

After re-installing Win11 from scratch, and optimizing it the way I want over the last several days, I have finally been able to begin re-installing MSFS. I opted for a completely clean install rather than copying existing files over in case I would simply be copying over some of the problems I had before. First issue was changing the installation back to my G drive. The Xbox app wouldn't let me do that, thanks to the old problem with installing to an identically-named folder on a different drive (a daft restriction), so I created a 'Games' folder on G and that solved it. Installation of Premium Deluxe started at 06:20 and finished around 15:50!!! I went straight to Content Manager to install the World Updates (currently 28% complete at 16:08) and then it will be the few Marketplace add-ons I have, such as the Ju52, Staggerwing and a small number of airports. Fortunately, the sim has remembered I don't want the Aviators and Xbox liveries so they were already shown as uninstalled. Likewise, my profile and controllers appear to be correctly reproduced but I'll  check them properly once everything has completed.🤞

Exactly 12 hours since I started re-installing MSFS, I think it's all done! Time to check all my settings have been retained and doing some test flights before I put any non-Marketplace add-ons back.
