Installing add ons question

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. I have read some other posts about uninstalling and reinstalling addons in reference to SP1. I did a clean install of FSX then SP1. I haven't yet used any add ons for FSX as I have always used FS9. My question is, if I decide to port anything over from FS9 and or purchase new add ons for FSX, do I have to go through reinstalling FSX and SP1 all over again everytime I want to add something new? I assume the answer is no, but want to make sure, because that would be a huge pain in the *** just to make an add on work properly. Thanks for your input, and please excuse this rediculous question.

Hi Jeff, once you have FSX + SP1 up and running then you won't need to re-install the two unless one of your add-ons creates an issue. That's the same as with previous versions of FS.Thus, the key is to be methodical about porting add-ons or installing new ones:* only add one product at a time and test it for side effects while you still remember how you installed it* don't overwrite default files without making backups of the originals first* don't place more than one add-on into the same add-on folder; it'll be difficult to tease them apart again should the need arrive* try to avoid placing files into generic folders, like Addon Sceneryscenery or SceneryBasescenery etc. Whenever possible place your add-ons into a separate folder with a descriptive name, particularly scenery and airport add-ons* read the manuals, at least those that actually provide useful information ;-)Cheers, Holger
