Vista and SoundBlaster X-FI

Featured Replies

Is anybody using Vista with a soundblaster card? I just purchased one to get away from the onboard sound that I am using, however it looks like from what I am reading that it may not work, or even slow down my FSX. Can anybody comment on this working before I go through all the trouble of plugging this in.Thanks,Chad

Have used the XFi-XtremeGamer Pro with FS9, FSX, FSXsp1, WinXPx64 and Vista-Ultimate x86, on both AMD64-4000 and C2D-E6700. No problems! Keep an eye out on which PCI slot you use. Usually only the last (bottom) slot is available with the large GPUs and that's where I've had my XFi all along. Many other folks run this card as well. Yes, it will offload CPU cycles after disabling the onboard sound-chip in the motherboad BIOS. Also, don't forget to reset your speakers in Windows to 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 as it will default to 2.1 after installing the driver.Good luck...

Thanks for the quick reply, may I ask what driver you are using for Vista? I found a driver suite from YouP-Pax that I heard was supposed to be better than the Creative one, have you tested this? Thanks again,Chad

No I haven't, I've just been using the driver from the Creative website. I want to get my new rig completely stable and reliable for a period of time before I go trying out 3rd-party drivers for peak performance.

Thanks for the help to both. I got it installed with the regualar creative driver. However I can't seem to get it to recognize my microphone. Are either of you using a MIC for online play?
