14" laptop suggestion for P3Dv4.5

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for an easy to pack 14" laptop that can run P4Dv4.5, a few Orbx sceneries and a few business jets (eg. Carenado). Preferably in the U$1000 range, minimum 512 GB SSD drive, and a discrete GPU.

It doesn't have to be the latest models but it has to be 14 inches or less. Thank you.

Win 11 Pro, MSFS Deluxe, Quest 2.

You need something better than the laptop in my signature. The good news is that I bought it in 2019 for $665 (although in 2020 I upgraded the RAM to 16GB and added the 1TB SSD). I only flew to default airports (with Orbx Global+Vector+LC, ActiveSky, and lots of AI), but I had to be very careful with my settings (specially after installing GSX). At least P3Dv4 ran better than FSX-SE (the sim for which I bought the laptop).

The bad news: since mine is 15", there were several CPU options available. For 14", the choice is tougher: I only found one suitable laptop in Newegg, but it has a Ryzen 5 4500U... where U means that the processor was made more for battery life than raw power.

Very important: you'll need to use either ThrottleStop or RyzenMaster to limit your CPU speeds to a value where it never throttles. That could be some MHz below turbo speeds, or just some above base speed. It all depends on cooling.
