Hi! My current motherboard is busted. I’ve got a 10900kf and an Asus Maximus XII formula, looking for advice for a new motherboard and CPU. Should I go Intel or AMD?

I am going to be installing an MSI Pro Z690-A with an i7-12700K & 32GB DDR4 3600. I didn't see any point in a DDR5 board right now so I can always change later on. I did look at AMD but the only CPU that seemed worthwhile is the ryzen 7 5800x3d but I could not find any anywhere so I am sticking with intel

Does the 12700 use the LGA1700 socket?

I could just replace my current (broken) me with another z490. But although I have a 10th gen cpu I’m looking into upgrading it to the current 12th gen. Although the 13th gen is due to release this fall. And there’s also the AMD path. Hmm.

Oh trust me I have been there LOL

I know there are new CPU's & GPU's due out this year, I didn't want to wait and then deal with parts not being available so from the research I did the i7-12700K, RTX 3080TI & 32GB DDR4 3600 seemed to be the sweet spot especially for MSFS 2020

I just finished installing Windows 11 (Figured I would give it a try), finished the updates and monitoring CPU/GPU temps. So far this NH-D15S is keeping the CPU around 22 degrees at idle. Going to try a little stress testing with everything stock then BIOS update followed by enabling XMP some more stress testing and then installing MSFS 2020.

I am quite excited about my day off tomorrow, Oh god I need to get out more lol

Finished a build is always great!

Lol I misspelled last night, or autocorrect changed mp to me. The first sentence in my previous post 😂

EDIT: think I just found my new mobo

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-quantum-msi-mpg-z690-carbon-ek-x-d-rgb

Love their products. Not much experience with MSI, but what’s not to like with a custom water cooled mobo with decent specs. Already have a custom loop that I use with the formula XII.

Think I’ll try and find a 12900KF on sale.

Wow that looks sweet,

My wallet would have a breakdown with the exchange rate here in the frozen north lol This is my first venture with MSI, so far it has been easy. Had some artifacting going on when I enabled the XMP profile yesterday but updating the bios seems to have fixed that. I thought about trying an AIO cooler again but in the end I decided to stick with the Noctua NH-D15S (Although I did pick up the black one and I have to say it looks wicked, Stealthy is an understatement.

I should be installing MSFS again shortly using your advice from another post so hopefully that will be painless as well

Happy Friday
